Hello. Here is a link to my United Kingdom lets play if anyone is interested in watching an Iraq War veteran yell at his ship captains. www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLF2baVq6xe6ttplI4QDXFGJxnuk74KFesI try to release a 15 minute episode every day of the week (pending RL things). I record all 5 episodes for the week on Saturday so any comments or suggestions wont have an effect until the next week. Side note, 13 inch -2 quality guns are the worst things to ever put on ships.

Thanks for posting- I watched a little of your first battle with the Russians. Unless you really prefer micromanaging your fleet, it might be easier and MUCH quicker to play on Admiral or Rear Admiral mode, then you really only have to worry about steering your flagship around, and the AI can do the rest. It's under preferences- if you play that way also make sure to select the option to start all divisions (except flag) under AI control. I generally put the speed on 'slow' or 'slower' (if lots of ships) and play more or less like an RTS. Many of the mystery pauses you encounter are defined in the Preferences tab as well.
Also, torpedoes before around 1912-15 or so suck and DD's are hardly worth the bother. One reason you may not realize why DD's don't take shots early on is that the torpedoes are so slow relative to the target ship speed that the lead needed is much further than you think. Combined with short ranges, early torpedoes are really only good for finishing cripples, after dark, when no other enemies are around (seriously). Once torpedoes do get good, the flotilla attack button (looks like 3 little ships under your flag division screen or right clicking the top flag on the OB screen) can be a powerful weapon that lets the AI handle things, but be patient and let the attack develop.
For gunfire, get downwind of the enemy so the smoke blows clear behind you. Hold as steady a course as you can but watch for enemy DD/CL's out in front of you. You can see who's firing at whom by clicking the fire line button on the top tool bar, but those and the range rings only show when paused.

I already have it set to Rear admiral's mode. I played captain's mode for one battle and never did again. I dont want to go all the way to Admiral's mode because I do want some control over ships that are within site of the flagship.
In the past I have had spots of good luck with early torpedoes on destroyers early in the game. It has just not happened this game. Usually by swamping the enemy battle line with destroyers.
Thanks for pointing out the New sighting thing. I thought I was stuck with it pausing all the time. Now you wont see the effect of the new setting until next week. Everything is recorded and processed right up till Friday the 2nd.

You took the Howe off off 'core' and put in on 'independent'. That's why your line went crazy. Go to the "OB" tab at the upper left to get an overview of your fleet organization.

Howe switched to independent at 3:45 in the video when that Warning thing popped up because to many core divisions were following GB Battle Division 1. I never thought to switch it back. That problem is cleared up in later battles this week.
