Galagalaxian great mods gave me an idea to make my own. It allows to play alternative history where Scandinavism won in Sweden and Denmark, so new Calmar Union was created (idea was taken from my favourite Paradox global strategies Love to unite Scandinavia in Victoria and Crusader Kings) This nation is rather weak, but compared with other "second line" powers like Austria-Hungary and Japan.
IMPORTANT NOTE! As there were no pre-made possessions to Scandinavian region, I created them myself in MapData file. Frederic Wallin said, that it is not recommended and may break the game. Though I saw only one bug during test campaign, I should warn you about possible problems. If you wouldn't be as lucky as me, you may delete modified MapData file and unzip MapData-original from mod archive (renaming it to MapData) to play without Scandinavia.
Designer notes:
- Names of big ships are taken mostly from Norse mythology, Viking-age history and Scandinavian geography (except some Swedish kings from Bernadotte dynasty which became pan-Scandinavian in this alternative), as I think using names of modern history heroes may cause disagreement-most of them fight with each other in countless Swedish-Danish wars
- As in Scandinavian languages there are many umlauts which don't shown in game correctly (at least at my computer), I decided to simplify worlds' spelling using only basic Latin letters.
- I couldn't test all possible battles with all opponents, so if you find glitches or design mistakes, please post them here, I'll try to correct them.
- I tried to make life of raiders harder, and as I anyway harmed DataFile I added also new interception point to every sea zone, where raider and her enemy start cornered in narrow place, so you may see situations where speed can't play much role and battle is inevitable.
Mod is here:Scandinavia.rar (161.34 KB)
Installation: unzip all files except MapData-original and SC.bmp to Rule the Waves/data folder; unzip SC.bmp to Rule the Waves/flags folder; MapData-original is reserve copy of original MapData file.
Many thanks to Fredrik Wallin for this great game, for custom nations editor and for his answers, cleared dark places in it!
