On page 9, the manual has: But in game, if I try to replace 2x12" with 1x16" and I get this message when checking the design: Is the manual old/just wrong?

While on the subject.... Shouldn't 7" and 9" be somewhere in the exchange matrix?

I had a bit of the opposite issue in one of my games where I was attempting to convert an early BC with 2 dual 13" turrets into a raider with two triple 8-9" turrets. Then I started looking into the rules more closely and realized that there is no option for lowering the gun size in favor of more barrels. While I cannot think of a historical reference concerning this, I felt like it should be physically possible and was a valid use of old hulls (though the refit costs might be relatively high). I do think that perhaps the rules could be fleshed out some more.

@ Roumba.
Cannot replicate this. Could you upload the relevant saved game? Thanks.

Can confirm this -- trying to upgrade a ship with 12" twin turrets to single gun 16" produces error, which states 11&12" can be upgraded to 14" and 15" guns (not 16" which, according to the manual, is an option when replacing 12" turrets)
Since the manual doesn't mention 14" as replacement option at all, I imagine it's a change in the game code which simply wasn't reflected in update of relevant section in the manual..? Can't remember if it was possible to do 12->16 replacement in the initial release of the game.

I wonder if the re-gunning feature in the game could be revised and simplified - the current system seems both arcane and very restrictive, since it only seems to work for very specific combinations. I'd instead just recommend making it weight-based - let players replace turrets with whatever configurations they want, as long as it falls within a certain weight margin per mount (not overall ship weight), and with a significant cost penalty. I don't see any reason why you couldn't replace any gun type with any other, as long as the resulting mount had enough structural support (I.e. wasn't significantly heavier).

All that's in my saved games folders are temp files. What?
Should I still zip it up and upload it?

Inside your ...\Rule the Waves\Save folder there should be five folders named Game1 through Game5. Zip up the entire folder for the game that you're having issues with and post it here. Without a saved game it's tough to track problems. Thanks.

Ok. Try rebuilding the Goku/Fuji Pre-Dreads from 2x12" turrets to 1x16"s. They do give an over-gunned warning when doing this (they're only like 16,000t) so maybe that's part of the problem? Attachments:Game3.zip (176 B)

It was originally intended to have this mathematically calculated instead of hardcoded for some combinations, but for various reasons that was abandoned. But you do have a point. I'll take another look at this.

Roumba, There were no RTW game files in the folder that you uploaded and so I was unable to check your save.

I don't know what to say. I have 3 games I continue to load and play, but my Game1-Game5 folders have nothing but a tempfile.txt in them.
Could they be hiding somewhere else?

Roumba,
It sounds like you possibly have two copies of the game installed, because the save games will ONLY be saved inside those five folders - the 'tempfile.txt' files are simply placeholder files that were included because the game installer will not install an empty folder. Check the properties of the RtW shortcut that you use to launch the game to find the location of the game you are using.

No save needed anyway, I have it figured out.
