Something I'm a little bit confused on and not sure if its a bug or just a mechanic is that in my current game as Britain currently in 1919 I have Japan as my ally in a war vs Germany and France. Twice now I've had a popup message at the start of battles off the German coast saying something to the effect of our ally Japan has sent ships to join our task force in battle. However during the battle there is no sign of them on the field or in the OOB or the report after the battle.
There are also no Japanese ships or bases on the campaign map anywhere near where the battles are occurring off the German coast.
Is this just the game trying to add allied ships to the battle but then realizing there are none in range? Or is this possibly a bug with them not spawning when they are supposed to? Or am I just missing something entirely as I'm still relatively new to the game? Any help would be appreciated.

Do you llow "support force" to take part in battles? Might be the allies were assigned to "support force" and that did not show up due to it being disabled. Myself I always disable "support force", both because I loathe having significant forces beyond my control and to add additional scenario difficulty/challenge.

Yea allow support force is checked. Then I am stumped. For me it is unchecked an I always presumed the missing allies were in the (for me due to setting) not showing support force.

Hmm thanks, in that case I may just end up making a bug report on it then.

A question - when you get a message about having allied forces in the battle but don't actually get any allied ships, is the opposing force mixed nationality?

I have long believed this to be the issue. If your opponent gets his ally in battle the message stating your ally has arrived will be displayed
