I was wondering if there was anyway to change the save game location.
Id love to be able to get the games to save to a cloud location (Drop Box / One Drive) so I could continue games on a second machine.
Have tried this using symlinks but have not manged to get this working.
Has anyone attempted anything similar and succeded?

You should be able to save a copy and move it anywhere? There are several "succession" games on here where groups have taken turns playing through a campaign by sharing the savegame at the handover points. It's as close to multiplayer as the game gets.

Symlink is a pretty smart idea and it should work just fine if you make the parent directory for all the saves point to your cloud storage folder.
Personally though, I'd opt for more granular control and simply copy the save folders around by hand. Even if you script it, the risk of accidentally overwriting a newer save with an older one is enough to dissuade me from doing anything clever here.

Thanks for the comments. Not be able to get symlinks working with dropbox or onedrive. Seem to have changed their treatment of these since i last looked at it. Memory stick seems to be the way to go for now.

I would like to be able to replay as many times as I like, a certain battle from which I saved the initial situation (position of the fleets, etc.) In short: being able to repeat my "battle of Jutland" (or "battle of Midway") as many times as I want, separately from my current RTW game. Maybe a good modder would know how to do this, but I and, I assume, other players like me can't do it.

With dropbox you should just be able to backup the entire folder to cloud directly, try right clicking on the folder and going through dropbox options for it.

In addition, I hope that we would be able to create more than one savefiles in one career... Sometimes I wish to simulate different choices at "crossroads of history". Now we can copy the savegame folder but perhaps an in-game option would be better? XD

In addition, I hope that we would be able to create more than one savefiles in one career... Sometimes I wish to simulate different choices at "crossroads of history". Now we can copy the savegame folder but perhaps an in-game option would be better? XD I'm currently up to game 27e of my Royal Navy games. I copy all the January saves into separate folders for each game so I can do this sort of thing. They are all renamed "RN FS12 Res50 Jan1915" (Fleet Size 12 / Research level 50% etc) or whatever and I can then copy them back into the Game1 save slot to relive history, try a different decision or more often tweak some aspect of the IDes modding that I'm mostly playing around with. I occasionally dip into the actual saves to change things too (usually for aesthetic reasons - changing semi-Dreadnought SA into turrets for example - though you can change money, tech, build times, dockyards, tension levels or even ownership of locations of desired)...
