That is one *really* robust outrigger canoe. Hey, if the Polynesian's can use the device for thousands of years, why not put it on our lighter ships. Sponson
Officially, a sponson is a feature on any watercraft that extends from the hull or other part of the vessel to aid in stability while floating, or to act as a securing point for other equipment. Picture a seaplane’s pods that extend out from the fuselage or under the plane’s underside, these are sponsons. Sponsons on boats and ships can be similar; however, they are frequently used to explain hull extensions. Sponsons add stability when underway or at rest, and make turns sharper as they dig in on the inside of the turn.

Here is a KE built as a catamaran. Excuse the poor drawing skills, my regular draftsman is on vacation.

I wanted to run an idea by all of you because most of you are better at artistry than I am. What if we use Snip and Sketch on the design of ships, I do it all the time? Now we could take sections of the ship and use Paint to insert those pieces onto another ship. I snipped a portion of a battleship, then put that snipped piece on the sponson of another ship. It was not perfect, but it worked. Anyway, you see where I am going with this. Anyone got a better way to do this. It could be fun.

Ok, well here is my first attempt at snip and sketch, along with Paint. Be gentle, gents.

This thread reminds me of one of the old "Trigan" comics where a catamaran carrier was shown. Quite a good way to enlarge the flight deck, if you think about it...
