When I first read Mr. Miller's announcement, my reaction was to fall on the floor kicking and screaming, "No! No! I want it NOW!!" At least in my head that's what I did. After about 20 hours of trying to figure out what to say, I decided to give some background on my feelings for NWS, Mr. Wallin, Mr. Miller, and the great group of beta testers, and the fine folks whose posts I have been reading for the past seven years without contributing anything in return.
In early 2015 I was browsing the internet, must have been looking for some naval wargaming subjects, when I came upon a review for a game called Rule the Waves. It said you could build warships and fight battles with them. among other things it compared the graphics with worksheets on buying nuts and bolts, or something like that. Since I was currently then playing Distant Worlds, a game whose graphics were compared to something that a Commodore 64 (you may need to Google that) would be ashamed of, one might assume that graphics was not high on my list of values for a pc game. I immediately purchased the game and never looked back. I started reading this forum, and borrowing ideas on how I would play (frequently forgetting a step or two along the way). For instance, I picked up on someone's suggestion of a 2100 ton raider cruiser. I would frequently forget to post them on station if a war was pending, and once the frequently maligned AI demonstrated to me that was a bad idea. In the first battle of the war one of my 2100 tonners was the division flag over one of my 6000 ton killer CLs. I almost always play on Rear Admiral mode btw. Needless to say, I did not gain any prestige that battle, and was lucky to escape with a minor loss.
It became quickly apparent to me that Rule the Waves and then Rule the Waves II were labors of love from Mr. Wallin and Mr. Miller, judging from the amount of support given these games. I am currently playing RTW II v 1.25, and would no doubt be on a lot higher numbered version if the work on RTW III had not slowed down issuing new versions. My thanks to all of you for the many hours of hard work you have put in and the excellent games that you have produced, and will produce.
Questions: Any chance you will rethink your rejection of the early access proposal a few weeks back? Up until 20 some hours ago I heartily agreed with your opinion.
Is that 0-0 teleport problem going to go away? I encountered it once in v 1.25 a few weeks ago , but for once remembered and followed Fredrik W's advice on reloading the autosave, and suffered no harm from it.
I have read that AI will make better ships. It seems to me that of all ships, battlecruisers would be the ones that would not have short range and cramped quarters, yet every one I have ever encountered have these qualities. It doesn't seem to prevent the AI from moving them around during wartime. I can't tell so far whether their morale suffers from the cramped quarters, but my gunnery is almost always better than the AIs, so that may indicate a morale loss from cramped quarters. I also noticed that AI nations don't worry too much about station requirements at colonies, but since they seem to keep a prestige level of zero, there is no real penalty for not doing so. These are observations, not complaints. I don't mind the AI getting some fudging help, it needs it. But I would like to see some of the battlecruisers designed in accordance with the rules for us mortals.
It looks like, from the ships you posted from the RTW III announcement post and the DLC AAR that problems with trying to recreate historical ships may be eased somewhat, regarding the weight from armor, guns, and speed. Mr. Smith didn't fudge on the armor on the Thuringen look alike too much did he?
Anyway, despite my selfish 1st reaction to the announcement, take care of yourselves as best you can. I can forgive you for making me wait three more months to get an improved version of my all-time favorite pc game (maybe) and you deserve to be able to make a living from this.
