= Don't always detach destroyers when a capital ship detaches
Current behavior is that if you have 3 different DD groups escorting say a BC group when one of the BC falls out for damage then a destroyer from each and every supporting DD group breaks off.
Problems this creates:
= As this is in combat the destroyers are likely already approaching torpedo attacks and those involved now break off. Even if caught by the player they spend some critical moments swerving to the escort than back. If not quickly caught they abandoned the attack.
= In destroyer torpedo attacks the lead destroyer likely gets pounded up bad as might the 2nd or 3rd. Thus to get a good torpedo run you need a longer string of DD. Pulling a DD off an attacking squadron is much more serious as it is the last ones not the first ones that were likely to score torpedo hits. If a DD squadron only had 4 DD and one is suddenly pulled off it might make the entire attack run fail or 50% reduction in likely torps (1 & 2 lost to gunfire approaching, 3 makes attack and 4 was to attack and was detached)
= The battle also quickly fragments up with many 1 ship groups. In "large" battles there might be 4-6 DD assigned to a B/BC/BB group with 3 ships. As one B falls out then a second the number of DD groups on map is not 12-18!
Solutions:
= Allow a doctrine page addition to on/off auto detach destroyers
In practice DD will become detached due to their damage. It is these that I assign to my retreating capital ships not the healthy full load of torpedoes DD that should be staying in the fight.
= Add a variant to detach that isn't always to return to base but to start escorting
This could be used by a player to micro manage the forces for than the game difficulty intended so perhaps not as useful as the first one.
