Hi, I was playing around and designed a CA with mostly casemated 7in main guns. Despite having 4.5in secondary armor and 5in turret armor I found they were constantly being knocked out be hits as small as 3in HE. Anyone know why?

Huh, did they have turret top armour?
And Usually big guns can be disabled by smaller hits, especially with primitive tech.

do casemate main guns even use turret Armour? casemate by 1900 usually means built into the side hull armour plate of a ship, but i don't know much naval history

I'm never quite sure when it comes to casemate mains. Not something you see in BBs often, but plenty of cruisers have it. I wonder if it means casemates like the BB secondaries, or something more like the Omahas in that case?

No clue, and the manual proved unenlightening . They did have top armor tho,I think about 2in. I also should have been more specific. It was 1918sih, and I meant destroyed when I said knocked out

Destroyed?...Are you sure small rounds were doing it?
And why do you have casemate primaries in 1918?

I don't use casemated main guns... On my original cruisers I use turrets, single or double, only.

Casemated main guns is an odd choice (maybe you were trying to recreate man-of-war ships with modern tech?), but to answer your question it was possibly due to having no top armor.
I'm assuming that main guns, turreted or casemated, are always treated as turrets (which need top armor to avoid knock-outs) because the developers cannot account for every single thing a player can do. That's just my guess. Try increasing top turret armor and see what happens, maybe?
Or another possibility is that it's some sort of quirk or glitch in how damage to casemated guns is calculated.

Actually, there seems to be an unintended additional vulnerability for casemates where armor can be halved in some situations. This appears to be a bug.
