Process: Collapse GB while in alliance with Germany. Took Ireland, Germany took British Columbia. Years later.. collapse Germany. Took British Columbia. Years later.. Negotiated peace with USA. Drove US outta SE Asia. A few years later... another war with USA. Sink US BCs to clear out NAWC. And then send in the raiders. 38 ships raiding in NAWC, 38 ships scored. 4 or so turns before this as well. All them turns get the trade disruption message. US collapses next turn after 46 months. Pretty good...

And a colonial battlecruiser only to hunt down raiders since there're now so many colonies. On medium range only, not sure if should've gone long ranged hmm...

CA's service life... Refit after weight savings in turrets Refit during a treaty. Oil fuel, 8" +1 guns, upgraded turret armor. It still can't take any torpedo hits. But not a biggie if it's lost anyway.

New game: France.
A mediocre nation economically and technologically. Nothing too good like global naval power, rapid economic expansion, technical excellence, or efficient shipbuilding; Nothing too bad like poor education, corruption, underdeveloped shipbuilding, small dockyards or small gun calibers. Although I do like quadruple turrets.
A very embarrassing nation strategically. A colony in the Caribbean from the start, very tricky to defend; home waters and colonies in the Mediterranean, also tricky to defend. Basically a nation with substantial oversea colonies but not the budget like GB to spend.
Last go was firstly sacked - no nation willing to fight me and prestige went under; then a crushing defeat vs GB. Need to tread more carefully this time.
Things to test: 1) Changed research sequence, Directors/Imp. DCT tech will come a few levels early. Have mostly had enough of throwing shells into thin air not hitting anything. 2) SUBS are back!!!! Also ASW tech upped to 21 levels. Hopefully it will temper the late game sub warfare madness, but will see if it's worth it. 3) HOUSE RULE of not building above 52K tons I can't... just.. I can't!.... HOUSE RULE OF NOT BUILDING ABOVE 70K TONS. Yes... better. 4) Starting dockyard size upped by 3k tons for all. To compensate for AI build templates exceeding dockyard size post 1916. Starting gun caliber upped by one, to compensate late game gun caliber research lagging behind.

Germany, adequate opponent.
Opening battle was a convoy attack, basically CL 2v2. Very inconsequential, very boring, as early wars go. Germany lost a 3100t CL.
Next came a coastal raid on Helgoland. Me spawns basically the entire fleet, 2 Bs, 3 CAs, 2 CLs, plus ample destroyer escorts. The enemy spawns 5 Bs and a single CA.
The enemy fleet was initially amiss. We ended up engaging 2 coastal batteries on the Helgoland bight, emptying 1/3 of ammunition on the 2 Bs. Sigh.
Day break came and the enemy fleet was sighted. Split my fleet in half, one side with 2 Bs and the other with 3 CAs to sandwich the enemy. Again the Bs are too slow and the CAs went broadside with the enemy Bs. It was tense. Suddenly something went up in a explosion. "Oh great there goes my precious CA" or so I thought. Turns out it was the lone enemy CA being hit in the secondaries. Not bad.
When my Bs are mostly caught up I launched a flotilla attack. At this point the CAs are slightly out shooting enemy Bs despite being outnumbered.
The enemy formation went into a mess. It was then that one of my DDs scored a torpedo hit. Then another. I didn't even see it happen. Apparently having a substantial destroyer screen does help in the early battles! Encouraged by this success I started manually controlling the light forces. Firstly CL Sfax a light cruiser having 4 underwater tubes. Successful torpedo run sinking another B with 2 torps. Next a 2 ship DD flot. Successful, another B down. The last B was again done in by CL Sfax, on its way making a run for Emden port.
Total torpedo massacre. Germany only has 1 B left. Didn't expect this to happen!

A miscalculation in the building program has left us in an embarrassing situation.
After commissioning the 3rd CA I decided to lay down 2 new battleships. I should have gone for CAs. Now the colonies are protected by only 1700t minesweepers.
Germany committed its remaining CAs all for raider duty and reining free in the colonies. As a result we have racked up 3 unrest.
Luckily for now its CAs are all destroyed or interned. 2 were sunk by my CLs in raider intercepts. They were extremely hard battles but we got lucky. War is raging on for close to 30 months. It is too costly to settle for peace now. I pressed on and got a collapse at 33 months. Colonies taken: East Prussia, Kiautschou bay.

Another light war with Italy... Nothing much happened as is the usual with wars vs Italy. Good thing we were able to take Sicily and Sardinia though. After that a foreign policy phuck up happened. Austria wanted to fight, but backed down at the last moment. For 10 years tensions were going back and forth but war never happened. So Britain said fine, we'll take on France! I said fine, if it might as well happen now! Britain has... 12 BBs and 5 BCs. We have 2 and 2. Brace for impact!..

The war with Britain has been very intense. He has got some very intimidating ships, as they should be, for I made them templates myself... Like this one: after taking 69 (sans the 9 corpse-whipping shell outta 78) 13" hits and 3 torpedoes, it was eventually burned to death instead of flooding. It is very slow, top speed being 22kts only, but the armor is way over the top:D But well it won't be in 1948, when AI will still build using this template! For now, the only way to destroy it is death by a thousand cuts... Its BCs are less scary, but still out classing mine, comparable speed and armor, but higher caliber guns, both built using the Lion template. The only thing going for the Tourvilles are the B superfiring turret. But in a broadside standup fight instead of a stern chase it's mostly moot. The Tourvilles are built small and cheap in the USA as my first dreadnought - at the time of laying down I still don't have 3 centreline turret yet, but fearing war with Austria a BC would be most useful. In hindsight I should waited a bit and built domestically using the much larger dockyards, but if war with AH did happen they would be useful so I don't really regret it. Although the Tourvilles are not very successful ships. Any 14" penetrations on the hull would cause flooding, and if I don't slow it down the flooding only deteriorates. As a result, they often end battles with heavy damage, once close to being sunk due to progressive flooding. I'm not sure to keep them after this war is over. In comparison, the mainstay of the fleet is the 2 BBs. On the same damage control level, they can take a punch. Displacement is defense itself! Both BBs already have 7 stars. Unthinkable in late game, at times BBs are scrapped with just 2 stars. It's just how outnumbered I am atm. Britain lost 13 BBs and all 5 of its BCs after 25 months of war. But manages to commission 5 in the interim, 4 remain in fleet. Geez. Worthy of note are the semi-dreads or B/CA with heavy secondaries. They've seen plenty of action in this war and dealt good damage. Britain has got the Albion class battleship with 10" secondaries, and Bedford/Kent class CA both with 8" secondaries. I've got the Solferino class with 9" secondaries, and the Bruix class CA with 8" secondaries plus 8x10" in CDF built in Germany. In a very scarce turnout a single Bruix went up against a single Albion, and had to retreat in defeat...... I think it could be the other way around, but I screwed up tactically. Most likely I took CA vs B battles too lightly after using the vintage ships. These things are a little bit different. Another incident is fire control research. Right in the middle of consecutive battleship fights I got Director researched. Actually before that, I'd found all the other nations already had Director FC - I think my research is just lagging behind in the round in all the vital sections, ship design and fire control. Anyway the fleet started emergency refits in Germany in the middle of the war and had to fight a few CL vs CA battles, since the capital ships are all in the yards. Luckily the CLs are large enough to handle themselves against CAs! The subs are starting to show up, but yet to show real teeth I'm afraid. The only damage they did was torp and sink my latest CL post battle. Compared to ramping up unrest by 2 per turn it is not that bad. All in all a very interesting and intense war so far. And ofc we're not settling for peace!

Nothing worthy to report other than a tedious war again vs Germany. But currently in a big pinch. Tension with USA has been like this for a few years now. And it is fluctuating between orange and yellow. I'm taking every possible opportunity to get it down but so far not successful. For some reason the yanks just doesn't like us. Or it seems once the player budget reaches a certain level it just selects the nation that has slightly higher resources as your future opponent. On ship designs I'm currently experimenting. The short citadel setup is used as normal turret layouts just aren't satisfactory enough. The experiment is the (somewhat) uniform B/BE armor - because currently in the limbo period of having oil firing but not AON. The BC's belt seems a bit low, but since dockyard size has reached my house rule of 70k tons, not much can be done about it, seeing as turret armor is just barely enough. Gonna see how "negotiations" with USA's gonna turn out...

Potential war vs USA successfully averted. Instead made UK hate us more so got into a war with them instead. After decimating his fleet they started ramping up SS builds and manged to reach 100 in service, and low and behold ships started losing to subs left and right. In total they torpedoed/mined a BC, 2 CAs, 2 CLs and other assorted DD and MS. GB's sub research was apparently way ahead of mine, I was just able to build SSCs while they were already rolling out SSMs. But the only way to counter that anyway is to match their sub numbers. So I halted all ship construction and started building SS as well. Luckily GB collapsed after 33 months and their subs didn't do much damage. After that got into another war with Germany, and just as he was also ramping up SS builds I took a negotiated peace with 6 points. I've found early peace deals are not bad as you can have more wars, plus the defeated nation might fight me again soon-ish due to low domestic unrest. Research wise we're just lagging in all the important areas. All the other nations are on improved DCT while we're not. Eventually it had to be Italy who sold us that. Some nations are on TPS 4 and we only researched TPS 2, and Britain sold us TPS 3. Good news is we're still ahead of Germany in naval guns, plus he didn't have improved DCT either during the war. AON is finally researched and I started moving away from the short citadel setup in ships. Most of my ships are refit in USA on improved DCTs after his dockyard size reached 70k. The 2 latest CL classes are also built in USA on TPS4 - this might be problematic, because once the ship gets a refit in any other nation without TPS 4, the TPS will downgrade. Like say currently tension vs USA is too high for him to accept builds, and we're just stuck. Hopefully we get TPS 4 soon! Anyway it is now 1950 and gonna do a time warp/budget discount/buildyear pushback/ship class cleaning.... Short debrief: The house rule to set the 70k ton limit makes designing ships more restricting and often have to make some big compromises. But in a way makes it interesting. Subs are a bloody menace. Used to keep 8 CLs in fleet and 2 CAs per oversea seazone. Now have to rethink these numbers. Also need to increase CP count to better clean mines laid by SSMs. It doesn't seem CP/ASW really has any effect on sub hunting, probably just ASW research... The latest non-AON capital ship is the new Tourville class, still in a refit to get imp. DCT and increased secondaries after turret weight savings is researched. The armor is pretty obsolete facing 15" +1 and future 16" guns. But they have to stay on for a while. Due to sub sinkings I didn't scrap some old CLs and gonna record their evolution with tech. The vintage 1899 CLs are all scrapped/deleted. Usually it's all side mounts plus a Y turret. Next is the one with 3 centerline turret: After light cruiser armor configuration and superimposed X turret 4 centerline turret 5+ centerline turret plus superimposed B turret on CL Multi-gun mount on CL All are now refitted with above water tubes. With mines and Adv. DCT they'd reach their end game state.
