Let me point to the 600 pound gorilla in the room and ask the developers an obvious and painful question: has RTW1 been put out to pasture? I assume there will be no additional updates/revisions. Hate to see the old girl drug up on shore and abandoned.

Since reduced research rates have been indirectly confirmed in the developer journal, can we also expect varied technology and its fun little modifiers like heavier engines or ineffective torpedoes to make a return?
Ever since that feature was first introduced in RtW1, I don't think I've run a single playthrough without varied tech enabled.
Varied tech will be in RTW2 as well. And it may include things like for example lighter than air aviation being more effective compared to heavier than air than OTL. Or naval aviation in general being less effective (the dream of the battleship aficionado). Woot, varied tech is awesome . That said, would it be possible to have some summary in the interface for the results of the varied tech events, so it's possible to go back and review the results without having to remember? This was particularly an issue for me in RtW1 as on a few occasions after I'd refitted a bunch of destroyers I'd click through it by mistake.

Will there be improvements to moddability compared to RTW1? About the same, easier, harder?

Freeboard for warships provides more space and this is generally critical for a warship. Well, for a constant volume below the waterline, yes. But when you add weight to a given hull, it sits lower in the water, freeboard decreases and draft increases, but the ship still has the same amount of space, just more of that space is below the waterline, and less above the waterline. Oh, certainly. USS Monitor said it best: But is there any reason to handle low freeboard as separate from overweight, given that overweight has similar consequences for seaworthiness?

Basically, each nation has a chance of silently developing various nasty problems, such as bad powder formulations that increase flash fire risk (RN in both wars), high due rates for shells (RN in WWI) or torpedoes (USN in WWII), and the focus you put on quality control determines how quickly such things are caught and corrected. It should eat a sufficient fraction of your research budget, and quality issues should be uncommon enough, to tempt players to skimp, but the consequences of cost cutting should be as bad as they were IRL.

I think what the freeboard function is intended to represent is ships with deliberately low freeboard (monitors, coastal B) vs overweight represents ships where due to issues the unintended low freeboard causes issues, such as the fact that many of the Russian predreads sat too low in the water due to excess weight, which caused their main armor belt to sit to low to provide the intended protection

I already had some ideas similar to this - if time permits something along this line would be a nice addition, but no promises at this point.

How is it going with the carriers development? All the screenshots from the game we have seen so far (2) are all without carriers. I hope everything is going well. Things like quality control, tonage changes and speed increasing may be a part of some later update, IMO it is not necessary to add less important content when the most important content is not finished. But this is just IMO, nothing more, of course I´ll be happy if there will be more content than expected...

What level of missile technology is going to be available for research?

I'm just going to throw this out there, I would pay a pretty good chunk of money literally right now if you guys had a sort of early access program for Rule the Waves 2. I love hunting down bugs and exploits in games/programs and figuring out how they work or how to reproduce them, so I wouldn't even care about issues or it just not being complete. If it makes the game better in the end, I would be all about that.

Don't know if its likely, but we will keep it mind - thanks for the suggestion.

This is a minor thing, but could RTW2 include an option to allow the player to see the specific name of an (identified) enemy ship? For example, if I right-click on a Bismarck-class BB mid battle it would identify her as the Tirpitz.
Of course this isn't strictly realistic, and should be subject to the same error chance as identifying the class, but sometimes I'd really like to be able to put a name on an enemy ship without combing through the post-battle results screen.
