DOGGER BANK WITH COMMAND & CONTROL RULE I like to see real command and control problems in wargames. So I present the modified scenario which represent such situation. In this scenario player directly control only Beatty's BC. Other British force operate independently (include friendly fog of war) and send reports for flagship. Player like a real admiral don't have information about actual position of all its forces and about real enemy position, course and formation. It give a good opportunity to look and feel all difficulties of the naval operation during First World War period. Best play at British side. Scenario for SAI-WW1 game

Interesting, thanks! Few weeks ago I modified the stock Jutland, Tondern and Last sortie scenarios accordingly. Less ships to control and less information are a good combination.

Just played through the Bismark battle on easy. Major brit victory. The Hood did rather better than in real life.....
The Bismark suffered devastating fire from Hood, resulting in a flash fire. The Prince Eugen then ran. I think the course of the war will now be different....

For those of you waiting for Hood to blow up, be advised. The shot that, in real life killed her, is what we called in the military "a golden BB". Yes, Holland set the conditions up by his faulty maneuvers, as did the Admiralty who built her, but the shot was a one in a million. In all the games over the years, that depicted that encounter, I've never had Hood actually blow up.

The Bismark did blow up just like that, however, in the above run-through, oldpop! Long time since I read about Hood - but wasn't it a long-distance, high-trajectory shot that went through the poor deck armour and ignited a magazine? That's what sunk the Bismark above, more or less. I just played it through again (again on 'historical') and messed around a bit. Still sank Bismark, but it took a bit longer. I tried out placing both my ships under AI control for a while, so I was controlling nothing. Seemed to work for a while, then the game reverted control to me. It seems the player does have to control at least one ship. I will try maxing out the Axis and see how Hood does.

Yes, it looks too difficult for German side. Here is my poor Bismarck. All turrets destroyed or damaged, fire, flooding and only 89 rounds left. I will try to tune scenario. Attachment Deleted Attachment Deleted

I'm getting the opposite of the historical results, Alex, no matter what I do. In Denmark I can't win as Germans and can't lose as British. In Montivideo I can't win as British, or lose as Germans. Which file do I open to adjust the ship/experience/crew quality rating? I could try making them all equal and see what happens.
Did you see my query above, Alex, also? Have you nay plans to draw the ships? I was really looking forward to your beautiful pictures of Graf Spee, Bismark, Hood, etc.

SAI was never intended to recreate WW2 actions so there should be no surprises that you're seeing odd results. Naval surface warfare changed considerably in the period between 1919 and 1939 and by design the game contains none of the technical or doctrinal innovations of the inter-war period.
It is probably inevitable that Players would push the simulation well outside of its intended time period and it is probably also inevitable that there would be major issues in doing so.

Alex and Phoenix:
You gents need to document your actions in detail for the NWS Team because in my opinion, the results for at least Bismarck and Hood are not realistic. In real life, against a battleship that could do no more than five knots in a circle, Rodney and KGV never got anything near a kill shot. Results from dives on the wreck, show that she might have been sunk by her charges, not the torpedoes from British cruisers or British 15 inch and 16 inch guns. Just my opinion. My suggestion is to continue to keep playing, gathering the results and ensure that all parameters that are changed are documented for the team.
Again, my suggestion. The team may have other ideas. Here is a good website to refer to, to help make changes to the game. For discussions of the real event, remember the thread on the military history forum for that expressed purpose.
www.kbismarck.com/ Dennis,
I think you may have missed Randomizers point - the internal game code in SAI is hardwired for the WW1 era, and likely will not give proper results for most WW2 battles with only the minor external data changes that can be made by players. These results do not represent a bug, since the game by definition is not designed nor intended to handle the WW2 era.
Now feedback is fine, but I honestly do not see how feedback on WW2-era SAI scenarios will help with a game designed for a significantly different period.
Thanks!
