Now that the RTW2 development team has figured out a more advanced naval battling system, wouldn't it be nice to use it to host some famous individual naval battles in the WW2 like Battle of Midway, Battle of Cape Matapan and Raid of Taranto? I am willing to pay another $19.99 for this new Steam and Iron 2. What about you guys? I would like to discuss in this thread which battle you would like to include in the SAI2.

I think the Battle off Samar would be an interesting challenge!

I'd pay a lot more than $20 bucks for an SAI 2 Grand Campaign!
Cape Matapan and Cape Spartivento would be fun.
Maybe a Narvik scenario as well.

I totally agree: count on my $$ too. There can be many interesting "what if" to investigate. For example, the interception of the "odd couple" Malaya & Renown after the naval bombardment of Genoa in February 1941 (Operation Grog).

Even if they were to add a way to load real world ships for both sides and play the battle - no campaign - I'd spend $ for it. There are a lot of scenarios that could be built without (I would think) a whole lot of extra work. Of course if we had campaigns...$$.

I would be willing to pay something to have another couple of SAI WW1 campaigns developed professionally and carefully researched. For example, a Mediterranean campaign in a hypothetical WW1 in which Italy is part of the Triple Alliance with Austria and Germany. And a campaign in the Pacific according to the early Orange plans. Theoretically it would be interesting a naval war campaign between a stronger Spain and USA in 1898. But in this latter case there would be the problem of how to handle realistically the sightings of ships far away from the flagship in a time when radio did not yet exist. Solving this problem would open a huge space to recreate the naval campaigns of the era of sail.

The thing I'd really like to see in an SAI2, in combination with after-release improvements to RTW2, would be a means of generating an SAI operational campaign from the forces in and movements to/from a theater in an RTW war.

This would be very interesting, but I also fear that this is very complicated to do at the level of a campaign game. As I wrote elsewhere, I would like the following. - The ability to detach ships to carry out specific tasks and above all when they are short of fuel (e.g. DDs). - Possibility to refuel and sail again after refueling (these latter two features were present in Thunder At Sea). - Admiral's ability to choose suitable meeting areas at the beginning of the scenario, when he chooses to preempt an enemy operation. - Possibility to shorten repair times by accepting a partial efficiency of the ships partially repaired (as for the USS Yorktown after Coral Sea battle). - Reduce the risk of losing damaged ships because the AI makes them sail too fast.

Ooh. I like this one. I'd also like my ship captains to understand the concept of weather and how to minimize the chance of loss due to weather effects while damaged.

I would like to add another request: - allow the towing of immobilized ships. In the WWII the cases were numerous, to name a few: HMS Kent in September 1940, HMS Liverpool in October 1940, USS Canberra and USS Houston II in October 1944. The possibility of towing can give rise to fatal decisions. Adm Iachino was able to save the DD Lanciere, which was damaged during the battle of Cape Teulada on November 1940 and later taken in tow. Unfortunately he made the same decision - with delay - when the CA Pola was torpedoed in March 1941 and this determined the battle of Matapan.

I would suggest something that would be awesome:
A hypothetical campaign based on the the IJN's "Kantai Kessen" strategy. Could IJN do better this time?
