RTW is a wonderful game, but every so often I find myself going back to SAI to fight real or possible battles using real ships. Since it appears the SAI system is being used in RTW2, What is the likelihood a standalone "SAI2" will be developed and released that incorporates real ships, developments, and scenarios based on WW2 or hypothetical WW2-like scenarios?

I also very much hope that NWS will soon develop an SAI2 game. It would also be appreciated that the way of creating scenarios and campaigns will be somewhat more user friendly.

I would agree with the above posts.
I still play S&I regularly and some of the campaigns and scenarios from the original game were brilliant.
Personally, I find the scenario editor and campaign editor easy to manage with a little perseverance.

I'm also trying to use both the scenario and the campaign editors. While using the scenario editor I found it difficult to manage the "alternate" locations, perhaps due to my inability. If you could indicate the "alternate" location on the map by means of the cross hair, it would be much more convenient. As for the campaigns, I note that few users have submitted any on this forum and none really different from those of the original game. For example, the excellent "raider campaign" by hschuster44 makes use of the map of the Baltic Sea.

Hi Von Friedman, I am very much a novice at modding and scenario design and my foray into S&I was my first attempt. For my North Sea mod, I expanded the original map to include the Baltic and Channel. I made a number of scenarios in various parts of the world. My tip would be to start slowly and run trials regularly and build your mod gradually. For my North Sea mod, I started by creating HMS Queen Mary and tweaking the OP allowance (I think this was even before the Campaign Editor was released). I have made numerous changes to the campaign, including adding all the torpedoboats and turtleback destroyers, the channel and baltic fleets e.t.c. in small steps over a number of years. Good luck with your Mediterranean scenario/campaign.

I'd like to know your opinion about my "Triple Alliance scenario" (see among the SAI threads). For some reason I was not able to activate the "alternate" option even using the cross-hair to fix its location. Any suggestions in this regard?

For some reason I was not able to activate the "alternate" option even using the cross-hair to fix its location. Any suggestions in this regard? I will give your Triple Alliance scenario a try; I enjoyed the AAR. I have been following the thread on the S&I area. In order to set the alternative location, you click on the small square button to the right of "Point" in the "Alternative Force Point" box (obtained by right clicking on Force and selecting "Edit Force") this gives you the cross hair to select the point for the alternative start point. I did a test on this and it seems to kind of work. The manual states that there is a 50% chance of a force starting at the alternative force point. The AI force appears to start at the alternative force point occasionally (but with a much lower frequency than 50%). I tried this approximately 30 times and did not get the player force to use the alternative force point at all. I will start a new thread on the S&I forum and hopefully Randomizer will spot it.

For me a SAI2 moving to WWII is interesting... i still remember my funny moments playing "Fighting Steel".
RTW2 is going to be a great title but in the end i enjoy more tactical games over strategic games and here for me RTW2 force me play a campaign to have a battle and not usually the type of battle i want play... for me RTW serie main weak point is the lack of a battle generator or at least an area to play only battles without need start a full campaign.

Good luck with your Mediterranean scenario/campaign. I definitely would like to see a new Steam and Iron. As fun as RTW is, there's something deeply satisfying about tracking, hunting, and intercepting enemy forces yourself rather than fighting randomly generated battles. I would love to see campaigns with asymmetric objectives that focused on specific goals instead of a VP threshold. For example, in a 1941-1942 Dutch East Indies campaign, the Japanese goal could be to land enough troops on required islands within schedule, while the Allies could win just by delaying them long enough, even if the sacrificed the whole ABDA fleet to do it.
dickturpin, your modded campaign sounds interesting. I read your AAR of it, but I can't find a download link on the SAI subforum. Do you know where I could download it?

I have not uploaded my mod; as explained I am something of a novice. Is there a guide please and do you need Win Zip (which I do not have)?

I don't know much about modding, so I'm afraid I can't answer your questions. You might ask cv10, who recently released an SAI mod (Oceans of Gore). I quite like your concept of modeling realistic British coastal forces, and I think others might as well.

dickturpin You would not necessarily need Winzip to upload your mod. Depending on the size, you might be able to upload the files as an attachment to a forum post, and then just have people copy and paste the files into the relevant places. However, WinZip is a useful tool and fairly easy to learn. The big thing is to "compress" the files into a new Zip and then upload it to Dropbox or some other similar website so that others can download it.

Could you please check that I have done this properly if you have time. Thank you in anticipation.
