Knowing that release is right around the corner and so there wouldn't be any time for this to be added if it was, but I saw that this wasn't in its own thread and I don't know if it was discussed. But what about an event or an option to turn certain Outdated ships into museum ships? This option would probably only be available to very important ships probably, like one that sunk many large ships or took down a force so much larger than their own. It would make it so we could save some of our really old ships that were special too us and did a lot. Maybe, even have some flavor events to go with it like speeches, lack funding, and such. The ships might be in their own tab or in the register under museum. I only bring this up cause it would be heart breaking to see a favorite ship get forced into the scrap pile.

That's already a rare event in RTW1, IIRC. You get a message when scrapping certain ships that allows you to keep paying the mothball cost in exchange for a permanent prestige bonus.

Well, I keep certain ships in "permanent mothball" and head canon them to be museum ships. Though having events for them would be indeed great!

I'd really like this to be a thing as well. Of course it'd be subject to come sort of criteria being service length or battle commendation. But i'd like something alot less arbitrary, and to have some sort of direct control over if/when it happens.

As Tripperhappypilot notes, this is implemented in RTW, albeit as a rare random event. Having the option to trigger it manually would be nice (I understand this is possible by manually editing the save, by the way).

I think it would be great to always have a possibility to museum a ship if it has enough battle stars, possibly maximum, and pay some cash, and bang - you have a museum ship, +1 prestige for CL/CA/CVL and +2 for BC/CV/BB...

In RTW I got that event every now and then, but it was a shame I couldn't designate ships that served me well myself.

Museum ships are functionally identical to mothballed ships, down to being reactivated if you perform a fleet mobilization, so you can always mothball a ship and rename it to, e.g, "USS Iowa Museum".

I'd much rather have a Directly-Triggerable event that turns the ship into a museum ship.
Something like "Pay $XXX,XXX.XX to turn ship (which meets specific service length or battle commendation requirements) into a museum" Then maybe (this is where I stretch it) you could have the choice between doing a floating-museum like the USS. Texas, or a full dry-berth like HMS. Victory. Each type of museum could provide unique benefits to Prestige, Training Efficiency, etc.
But at least being able to manually trigger the event from RTW1 would be sufficient.

I was pleasantly surprised once when this event fired on my pre-dreadnought Mikasa. Then during a later war in the early '20s I received the "The Mikasa is having condenser trouble" message, or some similar back-to-port for maintenance issue, after which it re-entered in the active fleet. I didn't have the heart to deactivate her, and spent a fair amount of time in each battle trying to protect her from harm. I was dominating the seas enough at that point that it didn't make much difference, but I do like to think how it'd have looked to a human opponent, when more than half of my fleet each battle is sailing off out of range, parallel to the battle, circling a black-smoke belching pre-dreadnought. I did let her lay waste to a couple of convoys after I drew off the escorts, just so she didn't feel left out.
