Note this thread: nws-online.proboards.com/post/40181/threadIt occurs to me that a NWS discord, while maybe not the largest thing in the world, might be an excellent way for wargamers to network with one another. I'm curious if this is a possibility, and if so, would like to offer my services (IE my time) to help get one set up. Discord is a "chat room". you run your own server which has as many channels as you wish. Most servers have many, many channels, thus allowing an almost forum-like ability to participate in discussions that can span over hours despite only having a few messages total. More and more online communities are getting discords for themselves.
Here is a permanent link to the semi-official RTW2/NWS Board Games discord server: discord.gg/gPDnFAp

Might be an interesting thing - but any involvement from my (or NWS) end would need to wait until after RTW2 is released and stable, as my time right now is...eaten alive.

I'm more than familiar with the (very shallow) technical side how to set up a server, if any help is needed. Also, strongly agreed.
It's basically IRC or skype but heavily improved, for anyone that's used either of those.

Yup, been an admin on a few >1000 member servers and that's a big one. Either police the crap out of spamming and only allow it for people with a "verified" role, or disallow it completely. Other things are things like tts, which is always a fun thing to test when first joining a server However, if you know what you're doing it's possible to set up a server in ~30 minutes. Things like bots and emojis take a bit longer (if there is a RtW discord, I pre-emptively demand that one Fisher :speed: emoji).

I would love to join a RTW discord. Same for me. I imagine there would be no shortage of community help to moderate one either. Not that I would expect it to need heavy moderation anyway.

thenewteddy I didn't think to check here about the Discord thing. What a neat coincidence that we both created threads about this in the same day (yours the original). It would be great if there were an official Rule the Waves discord. It's extremely easy to use -- I mean, if I can do it... For that, my preference would be that NWS folks start/head it (looking at williammiller when he has the time, surely post-release). However, people may enjoy an exclusive Rule the Waves server set up by anyone in the mean time. Servers are incredibly easy to create, so why not! Also, if one is created, I would happily pin that in my own Discord, where many RtW enthusiasts already reside. (My Discord join link can be found here: discord.gg/ZqP5nU4 )

(My Discord join link can be found here: discord.gg/ZqP5nU4 ) Given that you can transfer ownership of servers with literally three mouse clicks, it's always possible for someone to create an unofficial official discord and if the NWS people like it, transfer it over to them for ownership. If William's interested in that (or, hell, a quickly-whipped-up server to show off what it could look like), I could make a very basic one in about 5 minutes

Tortuga's discord already has a number of people who seem to have come just for RTW; so it can serve as the unofficial home until an official one is spun off

An idea suddenly came into my mind to find a discord server of NWS, then I found your post... Lol
It seems that there is still no official server of NWS?
I strongly recommend someone to create one, which will include the discussions of ALL NWS GAMES, no only RTW. And invite the staff of NWS to join.
Please tell me if someone is going to set up a server. Thanks!

There is already a semi-official RTW2 discord server (I drop in there from time to time with some tidbits & updates): discord.gg/WCb5aa

I think the admins there would not mind setting up a section for our other NWS games - I'll check with them and see.
