Just did a quick search no mention of star shells, are they in the game? Remember playing Action Station a galzillion years. Star shells and searchlights, Fun items.

I heavily advocated on the forums earlier for a more fleshed-out pre-radar night battle mechanic, in fact I rank it much higher on the "DLC-list I wish for", than the popular "submarine-expansion" idea, but currently as far as I know, there are no plans regarding night engagements apart from what radar does.

I have been wanting an updated version of Action Stations! for years. If I had a way to play it I'd still fire it up occasionally. Allocating guns to directors, firing star shells, search light operations, smoke and counter flooding and magazine flooding. Lots of things to keep busy with and there's also the game play of watching the ships and giving orders. RTW and SAI are as close as I've seen anyone come so far.

kyle - the only negative thing I can say about Mr Zimm's creation is that it lacks any meaningful AI. Ships tend to drive around in herds... RtW does do formations, and generally does them well.

Exactly director - if we had the RTW or SAI ships with the AI 'smarts' along with Action stations star shells, director control, smoke screens, etc. Wow.

Action stations was a pain to handle more than half a dozen ships in, the interface was not terribly usable and you had to do everything manually. I won't miss the director assignments, but I imagine going to blind-fire radar in RTW2 will feel a little weird without the previous nightfighting aids represented.

Action stations was certainly not the last word in surface warfare as NWS has shown with several titles. There are things about it I miss and things I don't too. I liked the director assignments and damage control as well as being able to fire torpedoes myself. There was more to do than just drive ships. The night fighting was what I found very interactive - star shells, searchlight assignments, etc. Some games are pretty much just driving ships and telling them what targets to fire at. Action stations had more to do and I liked the interaction and challenges. I figured out how to edit ships in AS - that was fun, almost like SAI but with RTW design. It let you build anything though realistic or not. I am looking forward to RTW2 - thoroughly enjoyed RTW also. I'm certainly not saying AS! was better, just different and enjoyable to play. More than SAI or RTW? No - just a different 'take' on surface ship warfare.

Sticking to the Latin saying "repetita iuvant", I enclose here an image that sums up well my wishes and - I presume - of some of us, about the representation of the smoke screens, which in the pre-radar period (and for those Navies that did not have the radar) represented, like the night itself, a tactical nightmare.
