I designed a new floatplane and waited for the squadrons to upgrade.
It did not happen.
1. Does it happen automatically eventually? 2. If not, how do you do it manually? I disbanded the squadron and activated a new one, but that doesn’t feel right.
Somehow I think I must have overlooked a button.
oh, right, where can you see which of your ship types have floatplanes at start?
otherwise, great stuff! RTW 2 is a great leap forward. Thankyou!

Did you designate the older model as obsolete?

After you have chosen a prototype, it will take a couple of months before the production model is ready for assigning to squadrons. You will get a message to that effect.

Are there production numbers for aircraft? Not asking for WITPAE level of fidelity, but if as Japan I build the level 20 airfields in every possession, will they be fully stocked with hundreds of aircraft that next month?

There are no production numbers but you do pay maintenance for each plane you possess. Did you assign squadrons to the airbases? Every squadron assigned to an airbase will be fully populated with aircraft up to the size you have specified for the squadron at the beginning of each strategic turn.

My fleet after saving program to scrap several ships costs me 4.4 M (4 BB - 3 of it mothballed, 2 BC, 6 CL, 2 CVL, 18 DD) and just 124 aircrafts (44 on CVLs) 0.8 M. I am just thinking to have large aircraft bases and shufgle squadrons where there are needed.
It gives me another suggestion. Could be in preferences possiblity to switch warning about not having full bases off? I do not want regurarly click that I am OK with it. As this strategy seems quite reasonable.

I recall one of the play-testers using the same strategy mentioned, i.e. moving squadrons between bases to save budget expense...we'll look at the suggested option, thanks.

I second that notion. Warning for the player is nice, considering how often do I forget stuff, but once it becomes a strategy, it will be horribly irritating.

What I mean is, if I win a great air campaign, is the enemy just going to make up those losses the next month?
Japanese production was basically a cottage industry, and the strategic bombing campaign really squeezed the Germans, it’d be nice to see that

Strategic bombing isn't directly shown, just like land warfare--if present, it would be random VP events.
As far as recouping losses--in WW2, pilots proved far less replaceable than planes. Despite both massive air losses and heavy strategic bombing targeting manufacturing, both Germany and Japan suffered more from shortage of trained pilots than lack of planes for them to fly. Experience is modeled in-game; if you are consistently maintaining good kill ratios you should see a commensurate advantage in experience.
