I started a fleet exercise with myself in control of a CVL that had an airwing of 9 aircraft. before the start I had ordered my airwing to ready for a torpedo strike pending discovery of the enemy force by my scout division. However, once the mission started the AI overruled me and decided to dispatch my entire airwing at the start of the in different directions on recon missions. Not only did this mission fail to find any ships, it resulted in 2 being lost, 5 being damaged, and the other 3 down while the enemy task force jumped on my carrier group. This isn't the first time, and I think it goes without saying that it is extremely frustrating to have the AI send a carrier's entire airwing on a sight seeing tour without player control. In fact I cant seem to figure out how to make my airwings do anything that the AI dosnt screw up
1. How do I exert greater control over my air wings
2. How do I prevent or limit the AI from overruling my decisions and sending most if not all of my airwings on erroneous recon missions outside the bounds of my defind search area.
3. can I designate some aircraft in an airwing as AI/ recon use or player control only? (If not I think this would be a good quality of life suggestion for the game)

I’m find it just about impossible to pick out targets.
Surface ship spots, which are accurate and real time aren’t fed in to the air strike list.
Additionally, the reports from aircraft aren’t listed in chronological order, and don’t fade out. The result is that I have a huge list of targets, most of which are junk.
To make things worse, these reports clutter the map to the point where at the 500 time mark of a fleet exercise, I’m looking at a blue cloud.
Finally, command and control leaves a lot to be desired. Automated CAP and carrier search is great. Similarly, I like the land based aircraft and especially airships searching.
However, I cannot get floatplanes in the air at all. My AVs are useless and even if I could use them, as best I can tell I’d have to manually order searches.
I’d like some manner of automation so that, say in a cruiser action my CA can launch the float on a reasonable bearing and establish contact.

AVs without catapults are bugged and never launch.

The graphical display doesn't indicate whether the search arc is the short or long way between the lines, and at 20 degrees per plane if you do set a >180 degree search arc I would expect it to dispatch the entire group. (Now that you bring this up, a clear indication of what is the inside/outside arc would be very helpful.)

AVs without catapults are bugged and never launch. Yes, we should have an updated Demo out sometime today with that issue and others addressed (assuming testing of the release candidate gets done in time).

I played through a game as Japan in the Demo last night, I managed to convert my three game-start CAs to CVLs, set up a pair of AVs, and made an airbase.
I managed to provoke the French (And shortly thereafter the Americans) into a war, and I waited nearly 2 years for a meaningful battle that involves my carriers.
Finally, the enemies decided to try and bombard Formosa, and sent a battlecruiser squadron. My 2 AVs showed up along with a CVL. (The AVs didn't work, as reported above already)
The auto-scouting was pretty nifty, I must say, but I seem to be doing something wrong with my airstrikes. I think I literally only launched a single torpedo bomber (which hilariously did manage to torpedo a DD).
Am I supposed to wait longer between pressing the Ready Strike and Launch Strike buttons? I know I'm missing something.
(Edit: Watching Tortugapower's video is helping!)

Are AVs carrying out auto scouting yet?
