What happens when someone's hard drive dies and they can't deactivate it? You have to negotiate for a new license? This is exactly what people were worried about when DRM was announced. No mainstream games use Draconian "activation limits" any more, because it hassles legitimate users more than it stops piracy. I wouldn't worry about HD failures. The machine ID is tied to motherboard. Reinstalling the game on the same PC, different HD should be equal to copying the files to different installation directory. I imagine you wouldn't need to reactivate it. It will be recongised as the same machine.

No mainstream games use Draconian "activation limits" any more, because it hassles legitimate users more than it stops piracy. You can replace your hard drive and reinstall the game on the same PC and your activation code and serial number will still work perfectly fine, so that is not a valid concern. Of course you should back up your serial and activation code somewhere safe (yes?) and even if you do not we can retrieve it for you.
Thanks.

More out of curiousity than because I think its going to be a major issue, but how will it handle OS reinstalls? I presume if we keep the activation code safe as above and reinstall Windows on the same hardware, it should still work without needing a further activation?

Activation is tied to hardware signature, not software.

Yes, it should work fine...changing the OS does not affect the APS.

After conferencing with Christopher Dean (the NWS owner) and Fredrik (the RTW2 developer) we have decided to revise the 'Transfer' option on the protection system for the RTW2 game. You will now have an unlimited number of transfers you can perform for the game from one machine to another: nws-online.proboards.com/thread/2062/protection-system-aps-rtw2-detailsWe do listen to our customers, and this is one of the changes that we believe/agree is a good idea .
Thanks!

Annnnnnd now I get to purchase RTW ASAP. You just made me a very happy man. This change should be pinned and posted somewhere visible imo so anyone else who was disenfranchised can see!

YES! Thank you! That was my biggest concern about the whole DRM thing.
