As stated in the Updates sticky: "c) After discussing the APS with both Fredrik and Christopher Dean (NWS owner) we have decided to revise the transfer option to allow players to transfer the game as many times as they wish, i.e. no limit on the number of transfers to new machines. We listened to the discussions on the forums about this, and we agree with you that this is the best way to go."
Thank you so much. I'm sure it was not an easy decision. I hope anyone on the fence sees this news.

Bear in mind that is a transfer, meaning you can -move- the game to a new computer as often as you wish. You can of course email us and we will send you a second activation to have the game playable on 2 PCs at the same time, both copies of which can be moved (transferred) to another PC as often as you like. I just want to make this part clear in case there is any confusion at all...

Yeah, I think the issue is largely spiritual... the sense of 'owning' the purchase... hence resistance to the activation limit. So offering to extend the activations if legitimately needed is very nice (even if it is unlikely that most of us will use it)!
I've also often wondered about the ability to de-activate a copy if there is catastrophic failure (e.g. hard-drive failure)... more a question about these types of copy-protection systems in general than a comment on this one!

makes me feel a bit more at ease. I was going to buy regardless, cause I love rtw1, but I'm going to be rebuilding my comp soon hopefully. so one of my transfers would have gone up in smoke very quickly indeed

If this decision makes you feel uneasy, just remember good old winrar. They know full well people keep using after the 'free trial' but they embrace it, and often people buy it out of guilt or obligation or simply because it has been working for them so well for so long, and everyone uses winrar because of this weird but oddly successful marketing decision.
Sometimes doing something to make people happy, and make their lives easier can be worth more than any potential losses.
