When I use the "autodesign" function in the ship designer to get a starting design (most to be able to start off with a nicer looking superstructure) sometimes the "luck of the draw" chooses designs well out of my tech range, such as 36kton CV's when my maximum size is 24kton. But even more insidious is getting secondaries with "DP" capability. If you have not yet researched DP guns the box is checked but greyed out, that means when the deign check trips over the illegal DP mounts you cannot uncheck the box and the whole design cannot be saved nor built...

Yeah, there are many problems with generator creating illegal designs.

the part with the superstructure is mostly why i use the autodesign function as well....as a workaround i cleared the design after saving only the superstructure design....loaded that up after i designed the technical part and it worked most of the time....however you cant load an image while rebuilding a ship into a cvl =( however in the process of doing that i noticed i actually like working from a blank with the game only making the visuals for me....could we have a seperate button that only generates the visuals file (and would work on cvl rebuilds)? =)

Aye, this has caused me a few headaches as well - I'll often 'auto-design' to get a base (and quick, good-looking plan) and then tweak, but on more than a few occasions I've had to 'clear all' and the poor ship has to live with my janky ship plan layout - you can almost sense their embarrassment when an aircraft flies over them!

A fix for this, is to change the gunsize (even if illegal) until you get to the high calibres that cannot have DP and the tick self clears, then change the calibre back to the desired size. It saved me having to scrap designs or redo them.

It saved me having to scrap designs or redo them. I've tried this and haven't had it clear. Strange that it wouldn't work the same way for everyone. |
