I am getting almost zero carrier battles in the 1940’s(literally one battle in my single multi year war in the 1940’s included carriers, and then the weather didn’t allow for carrier ops and there was nearly zero enemy ships anyway), which is incredibly frustrating since in the 30’s I did get a few battles with them(including sinking two Battlecruisers with torpedo bombers) and decided to invest heavily into carriers but now that I have a well developed carrier force I am only getting battles with light cruisers on my side(and often against enemy heavy cruisers since for some reason all the AI decided to completely abandon the idea of light cruisers, there are zero AI light cruisers around in 1944), I’m not even getting any battles including any of my 18 Battleships either, it’s almost entirely light cruisers and the occasional destroyer match(again facing enemy heavy cruisers and for some reasons the occasional battleship)
is anybody else facing similar issues?

when choosing battles only pick large and fleet battles, skip the rest if you can afford the VP hit (it was a LOT easier in RtW1 since turning down a battle was cheap)
also you might be able to manipulate which ships you get in the battle by not building certain ships - starting in 1900 i'm now 1920 and my fleet consists of only BB and DD (just got CVL tech so no carriers yet, tried 60% tech so everything's a little late). i retired all my CAs in 1910 and CLs in 1915 - i like having CLs for scouting my battle line but they were being put up against enemy BCs all the time so i ditched them
now i'v been getting a lot of med/lrg (and even a few small) battles with my BBs against enemy BC/CA and doing pretty well - many times you end up with only DDs on your side against a bigger enemy, but DDs can run away and it helps you to not lose the battle and wait for a better opportunity
in the end you want your best against the enemy in a battle and only building the ship types you want in battle gives you a better chance of grinding out a victory in the long run

What I am saying is that I’m not getting any large or fleet battles, i would love to get either but all I get are cruiser battles, coastal raids(with just cruisers or destroyers and often unable to even attack the bombardment target), and convoy battles

Build some fast CVL's, not just large CV's. I just got a pair of CVL's supporting three BC's in a large "cruiser battle".
