A place to post your biggest disasters. One of my old B's with 9" belt armor and 13" guns capable of penetrating 10+ inches of armor gets sunk instantly after I get a pop up message during a night engagement that it got hit by a torpedo from 2 CAs sporting 6" belt and 6" guns!!!!! WTF? !!!! I didn't even get a message that it was in the process of sinking.I must have spent 70 out of 500 time allotment shelling the ships and apparently didn't get a single critical hit on them with my 13"ers. Supreme Command will be investigating this disaster for years down the road. AND I lost a submarine to boot??? No enemy DDs present that I saw. Before that engagement I had an old B of the same class up against two CAs, one with 9" and one with 6" guns. I got a rudder hit and spent a while swimming in circles. Finally got back on track and after going overtime (750 out of 600 of my allotted time) I ran out of 13" ammo firing at the two cruisers with 6" belt armor and despite numerous hits apparently didn't scratch them, as one made off with "medium damage" and the other "light". I'm getting reamed.

gotta be chasing down an enemy destroyer with two BC's, getting both BC's hit with torps and losing one to that, and while limping back home with the other one i managed to run into a bloody mine and lost the other.

Never mind, it have happened to me once till I get not too greedy to sink everything. :-)

Yeah. I have mostly given up chasing destroyers if my flag is anything larger than a DD itself--high-risk, low reward.
Early submarines are as likely to be lost to mines or accident as ASW, and they were occasionally rammed by ships as large as battleships.

To be clear It was night and it was being identified as a much heavier ship (a Cruiser IIRC) it was only at the last second it was revealed as a bloody destroyer

I had a wonderful (in that, it's good the AI can hammer me from time-to-time, I didn't enjoy the actual battle!) defeat while defending Ireland against Germany in an invasion battle. I managed to sink enough transports to presumably forestall the invasion, but lost three of my best battleships for the trouble. Love the new type of battle, and there's a certain feeling of desperation when trying to defend Ireland as Britain which adds to the willingness to throw ships into dangerous situations .

In my first rtw2 play through as AH it was around 1904 and i was at war with Italy. I was given a bombardment mission and the target was well and truly inside the enemy harbor minefield. I figured I'd do what i use to do in rtw1 and wait for morning light so i can start to shell it...
*A destroyer has struck a mine*
Thats not good... 4 ships struck mines while I had my flag ship parked and then as morning sunshine started to hit the deck... A 6in shore gun opened up finishing off 1 or 2 crippled destroyers. In the dark i never knew that thing was there and after exchanging shells for a bit and seeing no sign of destroying either the bombardment target or the shore gun i headed home.
*A ship has struck a mine*
Half my fleet in that engagement was lost to a very early war minefield and gave the Italians a pretty sizable lead for awhile in points.
I didn't accept anymore bombardment missions after that lol

OK. Had my first opportunity to use CVLs on a small fleet engagement mission. It was a learning experience, needless to say, as I fumbled around in the air strike interface trying to figure out what I was supposed to do. Finally I realized I couldn't ready any aircraft for a strike due to not having set a number in the "#" field. I finally got the mission launched as it approached dusk. As soon as the planes launched the enemy forces turned away from my battle cruisers and retreated, soon to disappear in the darkness. But at least now I know a little more of what to do to stage a carrier airstrike.
