Hello all.
From what I understand I have no influence on the airfields in regards of striking a specific target.
So far I have yet failed to see (read) that any of the planes that provide CAP attack a ship the sight.
Is CAP recon and dogfighting only? I can Outfit the bases with Bombers but they dont seem to do anything.
What am I doing wrong?
Any advice
Thanks!
(Sorry if this has been asked befor)

CAP or combat air patrol is specifically meant to patrol against air attacks. Naval strike is the order for if u want to order bombers or fighter with bomb load to attack naval targets.
CAP will not engage surface target in the game, torpedo/divebomber will not be used as CAP planes, but will fight back if attacked by CAP aircrafts and depending on the model, may sometime actually do a ok job.
I don’t think air base send CAP to your surface fleet either, but I think it will be nice if they did so ocassionaly as it was historically done( ofcourse they are also very unrealiable in this role, so it should be random)

Air based planes do attack surface ships. Before every game, if its working, it will ask you if you want the bases to target enemy bases/bombardment target, enemy ships or enemy ships near objective. Lighter than air just always take off at day without pregame selection.
Ill do a game soon and screen shot how insane the aircraft from land bases can be.

I just did a run through with Italy where I controlled the entire Mediterranean and my land based aircraft tended to sink as many or more enemy ships than my directly controlled CVs did in any given battle. They just have to have the range to get to the enemy ships oh and it seems only the Torpedo or Dive Bombers attack surface ships. I don't think the float planes or flying boats based at an airbase will.
Lighter than Air just do their own thing, whatever that is. Not sure what they do besides recon to be honest since there is zero player control over these assets. I know they perform recon, probably better than airplanes, think they might bomb, maybe spot and sink subs and I could have sworn that I saw some messages about airships launching some parasite fighters but the game is very vague about their capabilities which is disappointing. I was hoping for some mechanic like the aircraft where I could design airships for specific roles and such.

I'm playing a game as AH in the early teens and every battle I get messages about my Flying Boats attacking submarines. I only purposely direct Zeppelin search patterns at the moment and leave my Flying Boats to do their own thing and that's apparently helping their effectiveness.
