First of all, the game is great. I think I will have countless hours of fun with it. Having said this, there are some issues that stand out, which are the cause for quite some frustration.
Tediousness in battles:
Most of my problems with how the battles play out is tied to the rather arbitrary time acceleration rules. Why is there no option for 'no pause on ship sightings'? The flow of battles, especially during coastal raids and convoy battles, is really hurt by the constant enforced pauses when ships are (re-)sighted. Furthermore, it seems that the game also pauses if divisions which are not under your control at all (mostly coastal forces) spot enemy ships. This leads to excruitiating clickfests when your force already retired from the enemy or has moved back to port. There are instances in which you do not control any forces on the map anymore, yet you have to painstakingly wait until the time limit is reached, and you can't set time acceleration to 'ultra fast' since there is fighting going on between AI forces, and you constantly need to unpause the game, sometimes after every single tick. Luckily, these things could be quite easily fixed:
- Allow 'ultra fast' speed when your controlled forces have no contact with enemy ships.
- Introduce a 'do not pause on ship sightings' option.
Quirky movement of FS shps:
It seems that the AI seems to move ships rather erratically when they are set to automatic foreign duty. To keep my ship list tidy, I like to send my ships manually to foreign stations, but the game only recognizes them as FS tonnage once they actually arrive at their destinations. This leads to a situation in which I have to 'trick' the system by sending ships to their FS destinations manually, while simultaneously having to designate ships to do automatic FS duty, so I don't receive instant prestige hits. Once this 'dance' is completed, I have to manually retrieve the ships which were set to FS duty, since the AI tends to shuffle them all over the place. Maybe ships could grant their tonnage to their final destination? This way, we could manually set up our FS forces, without having to cumbersomely trick the system. Alternatively, some kind of grace period would be an easy fix for this issue. It is kind of awkward that you instantly get prestige hits while your ships are enroute to foreign stations, but designating them as FS forces instantly satisfies the FS tonnage requirements, although in this case, the ships are also not actually there yet.
Other than that, as I said, excellent game! The issues above are relatively minor, and I am looking forward to whats to come from you guys!
