I get this results of invasion scenario.
It seems to me quite strange for several reasons. If invader (in this case AI) achieve target AI gets 75000 points. If defender (myself) does achieve target (meaning invader does not achieve his target) defender gets nothing. So Invader is always in much better situation as long as he does not loose more ships he would win.
In this scenario in 1949 I get 2 colonial cruisers (small 5600 tons) to attack convoy. As soon as I realize that I am facing convoy which are defended by heavy cruiser and 4 destroyers I realized that I am completely outgunned so I change target to force convoy to turn at all costs. I was able to sink almost half of transport ships, damaged escorts and force convoy to turn away.
So I consider it as quite a good result (I will not add strategic point that I have about 50 cruisers so loosing 2 the smallest are minimal loss) especially halting enemy offensive with such small force. But at the end enemy get major victory. Quite strange.
I would more expect that if invader achieve target they get points and if they do not they loose points (or defender get them).
