Now this isn't guaranteed to be a bug but it is still really odd to the point that it could very easily be a bug. Or maybe it's a mechanic in the armor penetration values that I'm unaware of. Still, it's probably a good idea to post it here, since it's something which doesn't seem like it should happen.

Hit the belt, the ship was probably heavily angled when the shell came in and just ricocheted. Ship angle matters for belt pen in this game

A hit at oblique angle at 15000 yards, yes, 3.5 in armor might hold an 18 in shell.

There is a certain critical impact angle, which when exceeded virtually any shell can deflect off face-hardened armor of as little as 10-15% or so of the shells diameter, depending upon a number of factors such as impact velocity, cap type, etc.

Alright, thanks for the explanation. Kind of thought it was that, but I thought there'd be no harm in submitting it anyways just in case.
