It is quite strange behavior.
If I make strike accompanied by fighters to escort role, the strike is made, all bombers land but fighters are still in air flying. I am not talking about minutes but hours. This is quite an issue as I cannot prepare another strike with escorts.
Or is this some feauture that escort is flying around enemy force till has fuel? It is quitet strange as whole strike stroke another target than was their task.
Eg. I prepare strike to enemy carrier force, I choose more fighters as escort and less bombers. However whole strike decided to bomb enemy capital ships in vicinity of my capital ships as they were flying over them to target area. But bombers return and fighters did not. And sending strike without escort to enemy carriers when 30 escorts are around enemy battle fleet is quite risky to be slaughtered by CAP.

Yeah I've had the same issues. I'm pretty sure that the escort will hang around the target until they run low on fuel. I haven't tried a coordinated strike yet but that may solve it. An RTB button for escorts would also help.

I think I've seen this behavior also... I often notice my bombers have returned to the ship, but that my fighters haven't made it home yet, so I end up desperately searching for leftover fighters to escort my second airstrike.

Currently playing a mission with CVs in 1.03 and some escorts still hang out in target area as previously. Some do return, though. There's no enemy air opposition in the area whatsoever. They just cruise around.
