Has anyone been able to discern whether it has any effect to assign a greater number of ships to trade protection than what the game calls for during a war? For example, my last war wanted me to assign 15 ships to trade protection. I assigned 19 for good measure. I'm wondering if there are any advantages or else disadvantages to over assigning more ships to trade protection than called for but I'm not sure how to test the game to determine it.

I always have at *minimum* 2x requirements on TP, even back to RTW1 days, and ideally would like 3x or 4x. I have not suffered a major capital ship torpedoing event in many, many, many games. In fact RTW1 I think. I think I wrote about it ...
(and I also build as many subs as possible, because with mature air-forces I have experienced losing 20 subs a month!)

Before my war against Japan in my current Russia playerthrough, I built up a fleet of 20 600ton ASW corvettes and 20 900 ton Colonial corvette that also is gear for asw, and put them all to TP once the war started against Japan's some 110+ submarines. Last time I fought someone with that many submarines in a previous game I lost 2 CVs to them. So this time I put up a total of 80+ TP ships(The aforementioned KEs, old DDs, Old KEs) and I take out 5+ sub every month, with fairly low merchant loss.
Then at the major fleet battle between the Russian and Japanese Navy, Japanese submarine torpedoed one of my newest BB and damaged another....Clearly one can never have enough TP ships.

Well shucks, I must have some bad RNG seed. I've lost BBs with 4x the TP requirement.
Did anyone reveal at last what the last number in the ASW means? The "770" one? (The first two are ship and aircraft ASW, as I read.)

I am interested in this number but no idea so far and the number seems always same which is strange.
I usually have 2-3 times needed requirement on TP and it helps decimate enemy submarines quite quickly.
However I have much more issue hunting enemy raiders, in RTW1 I have a lot of reports my ships thwart enemy raider and a lot of interception. It is no more True even if I have 40 light cruisers, a lot of them with seaplane.
