V1.02 (new game started)
All relevant info from the game files, I hope - tried to save during combat. Savegame under the next post.
As you can see from the screenshot, the CA seems to fire 2x5 4in guns at the target ship. I'm not sure if it's using ammo, though ... wait, I'll run another salvo ... . Oh: - game seemingly does not show all salvos in the log (have attached copy+paste of "big" log window)
- obviously, while firing 5 guns x times, you can drop 1 round somewhere on the way from the magazine to the gun?! (26 rounds used!)

sry, ZIP was 1048Kb and the forum says "only 1MB", so I had to use 7z ... (wow, never seen such a difference?!)

If I remember correctly the log displays a one minute time period. In that one minute, how many times can those light guns fire? Now if the log displayed every one of those shots it would be incredibly long with way more information than you can use so it’ll only display when you first opened fire, hits, and straddles if I remember correctly.

jeb94 is correct, the game resolves combat in 1 minute 'time slices', so during that 1 minute period you may have 1, 2, 3 or whatever salvos fired based on the guns net ROF during that particular 'slice'.

Of course you would see this more with smaller guns and/or at closer ranges where the ROF is generally higher, but it is possible anytime the net ROF of a gun/battery is greater than 1 rpm.

Good to know. I always assumed that the shells were hitting through-and-through shots that counted multiple times, but I like this explanation better.
