Does the game actually apply the firing arcs of asymmetrical turrets as indicated in the ship design screen? Specifically, if I do an Enterprise type of design with 4x5" Twins on the starboard flight deck will they really only fire in the starboard arc?
Also, or additionally, does anyone know if the game factors in any kind of defensive maneuvers against air attack opening or blocking firing arcs of AA weapons?

If I remember it correctly, it was said that it is simplified and that in reality they would not fire across flight deck beacuse of risk of damage.
I know only about one example of fleet carrier fired upon enemy ships but do not remember any note about using all guns from both side.

Thanks Dorn, I was hoping to design a "clean" deck but it looks like I may have to put guns on both sides of the flight deck to have proper firing arcs (for AA purposes). By the way, there is film footage of an Essex class firing to port over the flight deck at aircraft... crewmen ducking and hustling to stay clear/below the elevated guns....

I am not sure if heavy AA using arcs of guns. If you are in battle and open design of your ship you can see heavy AA with number. I think this number is used as you can see it in battle log.
You can experiment with different main armament set up but I do not think it will have any effect. If you do so, I will be interesting in your findings.

Can't you just click the "show turret arcs" button?

Can't you just click the "show turret arcs" button? The turret arc display is what triggered the question. The example being mounting 4 twin 5" turrets before and after the island in the traditional US design does not provide an arc of fire to the forward, port or rear arcs when used as main armament, so I guess the true question is do those arcs apply to AA fire the same as Main Gun fire? I'm hoping that AA actions do not follow the same firing procedures as Surface Actions (just so the Ship Design in the traditional layout is actually functional).
