Basic historic statistics like tonnage sunk, average damage after battle, (non penetrating) hits recived, maybe average fighting distances or merchants sunk would realy help to evaluate your ships. A History of your favourite BB would give her some extra charisma as well . I'm imagening a dreadnought becoming the pride of the fleet after dealing deadly blows to the enemy battle line. You'd get extra prestige for your mighty vessel. Your foes of course would do everything to sink this meanace.

Most sinking are a combined effort between many ships. Nevertheless, having a detailed log book of a ship's battle fought, hits received and landed, etc makes for an excellent AAR writing aids

I want to see some of this in post-battle stats, tbh - I know "ships sunk" isn't too meaningful, but "damage points dealt" is something the game could easily be tracking, and maybe add some record of flash-fire kills or kills where only one ship did damage. Alternately, break it into fractions - if a BB takes 50k damage to kill and the HMS Example did 20k of it, it'd get 0.4 BB kills.

I'd suspect a lot of damage point from fire/flood cant be tracked to individual hits. But I agree that more tracking is a good idea. This will also bloat the size of the save files quite quickly to keep all these data around tho. Maybe a toggle to "save ship data" for specific ships can be a good alternative as well

Most data like hits and penetration is already measured by the game. So basically that what alsadius wrote... but not only post battle. I want a history button for every ship .

Each ship gets a record of total damage dealt, a list of special kills, and *maybe* a breakdown by ship classes. Even super-detailed stats would be a few hundred bytes per ship, at most, and only a few bytes per if you stick with basic "total damage done" values. Even on VL fleets you're talking a few hundred k of raw text by the end of the game for detailed stats, so probably like 10KB zipped. It won't be meaningfully bloated.

At the very least when a ship earns a battle star their should be some computer generated notes attached. Perhaps a copy of the ships tally sheet from the end of the battle and a button to jump the world map to that location.
Each and every battle for each and every ship might lead to a fair bit of data bloating in the directory. For instance I have ~50 destroyers.
Though perhaps a game option could be present for what level of ship gets the data additions: Capital (B, BB, BC, CV, CVL)
Cruiser (add CA, CL, maybe CVL goes here?)
Everybody (add KE, DD, AV and so on)
