I got the tech that allows me to build Q-Ships, but I am at a loss as to what that means. Is it like the Motor Torpedo Boats except only build-able at war? Or does it means something with my Armed Merchant Ships? Or what?

Esentially, this means that your AMCs are supposed to operate under cover, with camouflaged armament, as an ordinary civilian ship. As prize rules force the submarine to surface and inspect the ship among other things before sinking it, this means of course that it is a sitting duck if someone were to drop the canvas off of a deck gun or two and start shooting at said sub... You don't have to do anything special with the tech, your AMCs will automatically get the bonus as far as I know. I do not know however whether of not TP stance is a requirement.

From what I understand, we need to put AMC's on Tradeprotection duty for the q-ship effect to happen in the merchant warfare screen, as well as having the AMC show up in cruiser battles? Ie enemy Raider ship attacking a merchant = a generated battle where the raider faces our AMC on TP duty. Surprise!
