There are still too many instances of unreachable (even at daylight sighting distances) bombardment targets in the game. The main reason is that they are covered by "suspected enemy minefields" and cannot be approached close enough for sighting, let alone bombardment. IMO the quickest fix for this would be to just halve the maximum radius of these, at the moment they are excessive anways at 20+kyd.

I'd say the problem lays more with bombardment target's locations; they should always appear outside port areas. That being said, smaller "suspected enemy fields" would help too. In small islands, like Bermudas or those in the Pacific, it can get really annoying.

Don't feed the Trolls. They just get bigger and more numerous.

I disagree. I've hit several mines outside the suspected mine field range, so the size of the suspected mine field is too small, if anything.
I'm a bit torn on the issue of bombardment targets near mine fields. It can be downright cruel to the player when their destroyer with its 2" gun (or even no gun, as its still a legal destroyer) gets pulled for the bombardment mission, especially right next to a mine field. But it seems realistic (except for the no-gun destroyer, somebody should have spotted that).
I mean, it kinda makes sense that a valuable military target might be near or behind a mine field. That was kinda the point. And while it might suck for the captain of the ship given the bombardment mission, obviously that target needs to be bombarded, and obviously they drew the short straw and need to do it. Orders are orders.

Orders are orders. The "suspected enemy minefield" has no connection to the mines on the tactical map. The enemy mines follow the same rules as the players, they are "sprinkled" around ports and coastal batteries in a wide arc. The "suspected enemy minefield" is a protective circle to abstract in-close defences of naval bases and therefore avoid a-historical bahaviour of AI and player alike.
