I've decided to dive into my first public mod for Rule the Waves. Before this, I've only dabbled in changing a few values in existing files to reflect my personal tastes. Now I'm going to try diving a bit deeper into the inner works of RTW2. The country I'll be working on is New Zealand, beyond fictitious but I think it'll be fun. I hope to start them out very small, give them a few advantages here and there and see how far they can go in the game. I would like to use this single thread as a catch-all for any questions I come across so that I'm not spamming the forum with too many individual threads. So far this is what I have for the nation.dat file: [Nation] Name=New Zealand Name2=Kiwi TroubleRegion=in Southeast Asia Leader=Prime Minister AdmiralRank=Admiral AdmiralName=Parry BuildAreaName=South Pacific GovernmentType=0 FlagFileName=NZ.bmp DockSize=2000 Accuracy=0 DamageControl=0 FlahFires=1 Guns2=0 Guns3=0 Guns4=0 Guns5=0 Guns6=0 Guns7=-1 Guns8=-1 Guns9=9 Guns10=9 Guns11=9 Guns12=9 Guns13=9 Guns14=9 Guns15=9 Guns16=9 Guns17=9 Guns18=9 I've also chosen a flag for the nation based on a 2015 design created by an architect named Kyle Lockwood. There was a public referendum at that time to change the flag of New Zealand and Lockwood's design came in 2nd behind retention of the original flag. I've chosen the Lockwood design to reflect independence from the English Commonwealth, though for the first years while their building capacity is small, they'll need to rely on foreign ship yards to supply their fleet with anything above the size of a destroyer. Comments and suggestions will be VERY welcome. I hope to get the community involved in this one.

Well, I'm getting the error message above when I click OK to start a game, after choosing the fleet size, save file location, etc. I thought typing in "South Pacific" for "Build Area" in the nation file would solve this, however, it's not. Does anyone know how to set the "home area" or where that setting is, which file? Thank you.

Also, would someone be able to explain what BKT stands for (or what function it performs) in the nation file? I notice they usually seem to be the colonial possessions of other nations.

BKT is "blitzkrieg target," and sets what possessions the power can try to take with blitzkrieg invasions if they're Fascist.
As to setting the home area, add a line "HomePossession=New Zealand" right before "Possession0=". The New Zealand possession is not by default a home area - its value is less than 200 - so you need to tell the game that it's a home area rather than just a colony.

Many thanks, Aeson! That seems to have fixed the problem. Now working more on the Warinfo file.

Does anyone know what the line "designpriority=" is for (or does) in the nation files? I notice that different countries have different values for it, ranging from 0 to 3.
Thank you for any enlightenment on this.

Interesting. I created a New Zealand war info file, created several scenarios against Germany in the South Pacific, fired up the game, went to war with Germany and none of the scenarios I created came up. Instead the game drew from some other scenarios somewhere, not sure where.
