Would it be possible for the “friendly ship in line of fire” check when manually launching torpedoes be a warning (which you could override, and launch anyway) instead of a hard block?
It seems like your torpedo gunners are incredibly skittish and will refuse to fire if there’s a friendly ship anywhere remotely in the vicinity. I’m sure most people could supply examples of a destroyer division in line ahead, passing by an enemy ship, and refusing to (manually) launch torpedoes. And to make matters worse, it doesn’t seem like your gunners are as careful under AI control—it’s pretty good, but I’ve had to dodge more of my own AI-launched torpedoes than I’d like.
I understand that, especially with early torpedoes, the ship may have to launch at such an angle that a ship you think is safe might actually be in the danger zone, but it does seem like the false positive rate is exceptionally high, even accounting for that. If the game showed you the torpedo track, maybe even indicated which friendly ships might be in danger, and let you launch anyway, it’d deal with the many instances where it seems to be clear a launch should be possible, and maybe even show that some of those false positives aren’t false at all. And if you do torpedo a friendly... those are the consequences of not paying attention to the warning.
So, thoughts? Is this something doable?

I have opted for exactly this when I started to play RTW. But now I feel it is a kind of good corrective - even then it is quite easy to slaughter whole battle fleets with a single harakiri DD flotilla attack. As soon as you are within the enemy lines with your DDs, some of them are able to launch torps, and that´s it for the enemy. Normally the first hit slows down the prey so the following boats can finish it easily. The "friendly ship in line of fire" block at least demands some tactical thinking when staging the attack.
