I have to put my foot down for the ridiculousness of the battle generator here and call this a bug. If you have ships that have short range and cramped accommodations, they should never be moved to a different sea zone for a surprise attack.
I had some 500 ton legacy destroyers I was using as ASW ships, they were built with cramped accommodations and short range. I can't remove the torpedoes and convert them to KE because of the 600 ton limit. They were in Japan on active duty in preparation for a war because I wanted the crews to be somewhat competent going on TP. I was hoping for a surprise attack in Southeast Asia and got it. I had more than enough screening ships in SEA, but the battle generator decided to take some of my 500-ton destroyers along with half my other ASW destroyers and ASW light carriers and move them to SEA for the attack. So afterwards I now have TP destroyers that can't move back to Northeast Asia. Not usually a big deal, except now I have ships with cramped accommodations in foreign waters.
I mean imagine if these weren't destroyers or if they got sent to somewhere I didn't have bases? There's clearly something wrong here, at the minimum the battle generator should never be allowed to move short range ships to other sea zones under any circumstances.
