What is the difference between turret and casemat for secondary armament?
I tend to build casemats in early designs and move to turrets afterwards; but that is just by adopting AI suggested designs... would like to know if there is a good explanation of advantages/ disadvantages of casemat, single turret and dual turrets
thanks

Casemates have a penalty to ROF (rather severe, I believe) during bad weather/high seas.
Single/Double Turrets have penalties to ROF until the proper tech is researched (not as high as the bad weather penalty, but exists all the time)

As long as you're not affected by the mentioned penalties, turrets are almost universally better - they offer better ROF, better firing arcs, better/more flexible protection, in the case if double/triple turrets - substantial weight savings.
The caveat is that you have to make sure to put some armor on them (at least 1in) or else they're treated as unarmored gun mounts, which are very vulnerable not only to hits but also to splinters from near misses. If you're using turret mounts be sure to put some armor on your secondaries, even just an inch or two for splinter protection.
Armored turrets should be favoured because they're the least likely to be knocked out of action. This might change a bit if risk of flash fires is added to secondary turrets, though.

I don't think there needs to be a difference between turret or casemate for flash fires. Flash fire incidents in casemates occurred on the Barham and a CA at the Falklands (I have forgotten which one) and on the Goeben at Cape Sarych.

I'd definitely like to see flash-fire chances on secondary guns (especially higher caliber ones). As is my secondaries pretty much always get 2" of armor for splinter protection and that is it.

I'm about to start my first campaign this week (bought it prior to starting work this week) and I intend to build very historic designs - casemates for older capital ships, lightly sheilded open mounts for cruisers, naked guns for torpedo boats and destroyers.
Most of the designs I seen so far on these boards seem to favor large turreted secondaries, it seems.
