I'll leave an exact answer to those who know more about gunnery but personally I have doubts that anyone but the US or UK could build that quality of gun in that size - if even they could. There are limitations on strength of materials, diminishing returns for extended range in a pre-radar era and significant costs in terms of ship size required and barrel wear incurred. I'd rather have a Montana with 12x16" guns than an improved Yamato with 6x20", for reasons listed above.

Agreed and the problem of barrel drop along with ammunition storage is really got to be a problem.

oldpop2000 - I thought about 'droop snoot' but couldn't remember if it was a problem with the Yamatos, or if they just weren't around long enough to suffer. I know it was an issue with the Nelson class's 16" guns but I thought that was from being wire-wound. Talking completely out of my memory here, which means I may not have my facts right.

First of all, all guns droop although wire-wound droop more. The larger the gun, the more it droops.

All guns can range from -1 to +1 quality, it's just that the very large guns are difficult to research in the first place. I'd set gun research to high and remove most of the other High research areas down to Medium or even low, at that point all you can do is wait; or edit the save file.
