Now that I've played a few games there's something I've noticed, but don't fully understand.
When a country starts building a new model of aircraft it seems to re-equip squadrons beginning with the oldest squadrons, not the squadrons with the oldest aircraft. For example, the oldest carrier based squadrons are the ones on the oldest carriers, the ones you built first. Usually these are found on CVLs and CV conversions. If you have a lot of squadrons of the same type (fighters for example), you may never get to the ones on your newer (usually best) CVs before another model comes out, which replaces the ones in your oldest squadrons. The game just starts replacing the older squadrons, perhaps leaving your newest carriers with models 3-4 generations out of date.
Another thing I've noticed is that you will accumulate a lot of 2nd and 3rd generation aircraft not assigned to squadrons, which, in a logical world, could be used to replace even older generation aircraft. But this doesn't seem to happen, they just get held "On Stock".
As a work around I've taken the liberty of swapping squadrons between older CVs and CVLs and my newer CVs. They are often not of the same size and this causes degradation of experience level (example: moving an 8 strength CVL squadron to a CV and adding 8 more aircraft).
QUESTION: Is there a way to encourage the game to assign the newest aircraft type to the newer carriers without swapping around squadrons?
For example, in this picture I have 5 different models of fighters in service:
F-57 Voodoo B from year 1960 with 263/263 in service and 1 On Stock (1st generation)
F-57 Voodoo from year 1959 with 112/114 in service and 228 On Stock (2nd generation)
F-53 Lightening B from year 1955 with 733/734 in service and 278 On Stock (3rd generation)
F-53 Lightening from year 1954 with 33/33 in service and 445 On Stock (4th generation)
P-50 Mustang from year 1951 with 553/557 in service and 945 On Stock (5th generation)
The last 3 models are obsolete.
One would also think there should be a cascading of models to replace the oldest aircraft with newer models. For example: Squadron A has 2nd generation planes replaced with new generation. Those 2nd gen aircraft cascade down to a squadron which has 5th generation models, rather than just building up a huge "On Stock" of 2nd generation.
There are more than enough Lightening and Lightening B models to replace all the Mustangs in service. If I had not swapped around squadrons those model year 1951 aircraft would be sitting on my best CVs and the good fighters would be on my CVLs and early build (25 year old) CVs.
Here's the result, my 2nd newest CV with 3 fighter squadrons of 3 different generations, none of the 1st generation.
