Can you edit the bonus techs for nations? Say, if I wanted Japan to have the quadruple turrets bonus tech instead of France, can that be done? Can you make any technology a bonus tech for any nation of your choice? Very curious.

Each nation definition in the BNat*.dat file for standard powers or in the *.nat files for custom powers has a couple of lines starting with BTL. Those are the lines that define the bonus technologies for that nation; the number following the equals sign is the tech ID number. Tech ID numbers can be found by locating the technology in ResearchAreas2.dat; the ID number is the last number before the tech description.
For example, the entry for Cross Deck Fire is: Cross deck fire;1905;N;70;6;605;Enables cross deck fire for staggered wing turrets (positions D & F or E & G)
The tech ID number for this technology is 605.

I did this for CSA, overwriting what was there with 4 different techs. Changing CSA,nat, CSA,nat2, and CSA1900.nat did nothing. Finally I edited CSA.n00. That did not remove the original bonus tech even though I overwrote it, while of the 4 techs I insert, the ones in the BTL1, 2, ad 3 slots appeared 2nd, 3rd, and 4th when I started up a game. The tech in BTL4 did not appear.

I have done this by editing saved games a few times. Figuring out what each tech is can be a little tricky since they are numbered instead of named, but you can add or remove bonus techs on any nation.
