Take a quick look at the image below.
I'm playing as Italy in a war with France.
France had a shore bombardment mission. They failed loosing 1 CL.
My available ships, 3X CLs. One with heavy damage but all survived.
So, if their mission failed, and they loose a warship and i don't. How did i loose?

Well since they got the bombardment target their being listed as failed seems to be a bug.
For the rest I suspect that your light cruisers were modern units and the cumulative damage to them plus the 1000-1400 points (off the top of my head) for the destruction of the bombardment target was enough to put the French ahead.

'LT sunk 1' suggests that they blew the bombardment target up, some missions are buggy, but ultimately there was very little VP difference so it was mostly a wash anyway and the ship sinking benefits you more.
It's 'Lose' by the way. 'Loose' is something that isn't tight.

Also, corrected my terrible smelling ;-)

From the screenshot you posted we can see that they did indeed destroy the bombardment target, as indicated by the LT column. So something went wrong, and its possibly a display bug that says the mission was "failed" while they actually succeeded in destroying the target and got the points for it.

It is worth mentioning that not all ships are equally valuable even if they're of the same general type. It is entirely plausible that a CL sunk and a CA lightly damaged are worth fewer points than a destroyed land target, a heavily-damaged CL, and a lightly-damaged CL, especially if the CL which was sunk and the CA which was damaged were old and small while the CLs which were damaged were new and large. No aircraft are listed for either side in this engagement, so it's likely fairly early in the game - quite possibly prior to 1910 - and the computer's legacy fleets often include a number of cruisers of considerably smaller size than what the player would normally build.
I don't believe that the French force is being credited with the 18,000 points for completing the objective; the "total points" shown for each side match the point totals for damage to enemy ships, and the French side's points don't come anywhere near the 18,000 points that completing the mission objective is stated to be worth.

Thanks for the info. Battle was in 1914.
I do have flying boats and floatplanes but only just entered service and only in the med. This was lower down the red sea so no aircraft.
