Suggestion: Make the AI capital ships less likely to change direction when in a battle line against an enemy fleet If they are at an significant advantage have them slowly close the battleline (20-30 degree closing angle so they are still broadside with guns) towards the player in a straight line to maintain accuracy Reduce tendency for AI escorts to retreat from their BBs Reduce tendency for AI BBs to fall back or retreat despite numerical superiority
After playing a bit of RTW 1 again i began loosing quite a few battles and found out why The AI in RTW 1 will push massively when it has the ship count advantage making it a lot harder to play against In RTW 2 the AI will generally at most try to keep a straight line but if you do any aggressive maneuvers it will start to turn away or retreat especially the escorts this causes the AI to loose accuracy as it is no longer on a steady course and their constantly maneuvering to retreat or fall back means they suffer greatly compared to if they had just held the line
in my experience this means in RTW 1 the AI was actually competent and they could beat you in a fleet battle very hard In RTW 2 the AI will almost always loose
Also i haven't lost a single fleet battle in RTW ever outside of invasion battles where the bonus invasion points made me loose not my losses the AI really needs to get better at handling fleets in fleet battles This also seems to be the consensus of several other people on the forums I've talked to.
I don't know why the RTW 1 AI is so much harder to fight against but it is and it feels like I'm actually playing against something/someone competent rather than a child trying to control 10+ battleships

Agreed: RTW1's Tactical AI definitely seems to be more effective by a significant amount, and RTW2's needs some tuning at least. The contrast of examples of battles shown on Discord is somewhat stunning.
I've noticed a large difference between both games, and the challenge that exists at the tactical level for a player is greatly refined in the first game compared to RTW2.
Having seen a number of other entirely different games of my own, I feel that what mechanics the "AI" handles in a game and how competent that it handles them largely determines the quality of those game mechanics. In light of that I'd love to see a repair in how the computer steadies its ships in battle and offers actual opposition.

I also think the AI needs some polishing, even if I am not that an experienced player.
My main problem for now is how erratic the AI is in costal areas. It can deal with the coastline and will run straight at it or bump alongside or even run in circles when in a gulf.

An example i just had If the AI does not want to fight and just runs for over 100 NM for several hours then why did they accept battle in the first place ? Attachments:

As can be seen ive been chasing the russian navy for about 200-300 nm They dont have a much weaker fleet than me All 3 of their heavy cruisers are 13100 ton designs their CLs are 4500 and their Bs 13000 tonners my Bs are 16000 tonners and my CLs are 4000 tonners Attachments:

Another example where all the escorts except for 4 DDs end up fleeing from their battleline despite having numerical parity in Bs and around 2x my tonnage available Attachments:

An example i just had If the AI does not want to fight and just runs for over 100 NM for several hours then why did they accept battle in the first place ? This could be interpreted/role-played as "bad intel and ennemy commander deciding that it's best to run, actually".

This could be interpreted/role-played as "bad intel and ennemy commander deciding that it's best to run, actually". They have done it for the past 3 battles and one of those battles was an invasion battle Last 2 battles they had approx 2x my ships counting heavy cruisers and Bs Here is another example where 6 Bs and a 10000 ton CA flee from my 4 Bs I find the fact i need to actively chase a fleet which could in one swift maneuver do a 180 and decisively sink my entire fleet quite funny Attachments:

Does the AI country has the cautious trait? (if that does anything)
But indeed, if you are in such inferiority, having them running is quite funny.

It is actually worse than this.
In fact, RTW2 ships commanders are cowards. CA's flee from B's, abandoning flagship without a moments hesitation.
AI suffers horribly from this issue.
Earlier version of this game did not have it nearly as badly.
Other things like capital ships being deployed as carrier screens? Really hurts AI ability to fight
