I play on Admiral's mode as I like the realism and prefer not to micromanage as much. It's annoying though when a single enemy ship peels off in a different direction at high speed. My battleline either a) can't keep up or b) has bigger fish to fry. In this event, I'm sure an admiral would order a squadron to go after it while carrying on with the main fleet. This is generally a DD or CL which is too fast for the battleships but easily defeatable by a small squadron of faster DDs, CLs or CAs. Or even in early cruiser engagements where one DD runs off but your DDs can't catch it as your cruisers are too slow.
None of this is an issue in Captain's mode but it's something squadron commanders did all the time (or at least tried to in Admiral Beaty's case).
Therefore, I think there should be a specific 'detach to pursue set target' command which would send a given squadron off after the fleeing ship. They should run it down and return only when it is sunk, torpedoed twice by the detachment (finishing off a crippled ship) or stopped for more than 10 minutes, whichever is first. They should then return to the fleet.
Obviously this can be subject to all manner of signal issues, not finding the fleet, getting hung up on beating it into a wreck etc.
I think this would just add a bit more realism to Admiral's mode - assuming of course this feature doesn't already exist and I'm being dim!

You can set division to independent and they usually go after attacker.

You can set division to independent and they usually go after attacker. That's what I have been doing but they don't have a target and it's very hard to control an independent group. Also, they tend to head off into the wilderness if you're not careful and you effectively lose that squadron. I think some direction/doctrine is needed to make it work properly.
