Once SS are available is it still worthwhile to build SSCs? Any situations where you'd want to create one versus the other, for instance, building SSCs if you share a home area with a likely enemy and SSs for their longer range if your likely enemies' home area is away from yours? Or do you always want a mixture of both?
(The calculation for SSM I assume is different and has more to do with how vulnerable you think the enemy will be to mines and how many surface minelayers you already have.)

Welcome ludovic.
I'm interested in answers as well. The manual states SS has more torps than SS and SSM, which I read as attack rolls; but I don't know what the actual numbers are to provide a cost valuation.
I tend to focus on SS and SSM, unless I'm in northern Europe. Then the SSC seem to provide a bit of value in that they are cheaper and hopefully act as depth charge magnets against other European nations... I think SSC seems to be a pretty poor choice for the USA, Japan and to a degree Italy. Italy is a bit weird as they share a common home zone with France and AH, its two most likely enemies; however the SSC seems a bit limited vs GB which has a large investment of territories in the Med but no home zone in the area.

Check the reliability of one of each sub ordered in the same turn. As I recall the Medium Subs are 20% more reliable than Coastal Subs. That is the only value we have access to and we don't know exactly how it's used other than in scenarios.
