Currently there are unique sound effects for things like magazine explosions and sinking ships, but there could be more!
Gunfire
- different gunfire sfx depending on gun calibre and salvo size
- audio is quicker-firing for autoloading guns
- could include firing bells, whirr of turret traversing
- AA sound depends on battery composition, with heavy AA firing first followed by the other types as the range closes
- light guns could have sound of spent shell casing clanging around on the deck after firing
Hits
- bridge hits include sound of smashed glass, shrapnel ricochet and wounded bridge crew etc
- fire started event has audio of flames as it tails off
- near misses produce a louder splash, and a huge one for a large calibre shell
- non-penetrating, dud, and 'armour pushed in' events have a dull metallic thud
- 'electric power disabled!' has electrical shorting audible, maybe that falling pitch 'powering down' sound you get in movies
- 'gun crews cut down by splinters' has sound of wounded sailors and shrapnel hitting the deck
- doppler effect for shells flying past or passthrough hits
- sound of wrecked machinery for an engine room hit
Other
- ship's telegraph ringing sound when you change speed (might be annoying every time, maybe only for full ahead and cruise)
- sound of sonar and depth charges when event 'X has attacked a submarine!' occurs
- 'bulkhead ruptures!' event has metallic rending followed by gushing seawater
- sounds for jet planes
The sound used in-game is in .wav format, so crisp sfx may have to be balanced against file size. There is also the opportunity to make use of stereo sound, eg. for a passing plane.
