Hello everyone! I am a newbie and I have few questions about blockade.
1. Being a non-native English speaker, I did not fully understand the line in the manual "To blockade a nation, you must have 110% of the enemy’s naval strength in the build area of the enemy nation". What exactly is "build area"?
2. Also in the manual: "Some nations have their blockade strengths modified...", and also: "After the list of ship types for each nation is the total strength value in the area in parentheses.". The question is: the number in parentheses represents "raw" strength factor, or is it already modified according to the nation's characteristics?
3. Is it explicitly shown somewhere whether the nation at war with me is currently blockaded?

It will be explicitly shown in two places: you can read the messages from the prior turn and see a line something like 'Blockade of enemy earns 210 victory points'. Also, on the main screen look to the right at the Tension Levels graph. If you have blockaded the enemy then his red bar will say, 'Blockaded'. If you are blocked, the notice will be on the left side near your flag.
You gentle readers please correct me if I'm hallucinating again -
Some nations depend more on maritime commerce than others, and are therefore more sensitive to a blockade. The exact calculation of what is needed to sustain a blockade is liely to be a moot point: if you have bases, you'll want to send everything you think you need to win a fleet action, and if you do not have bases you won't be able to sustain a blockade anyway.

A picture is worth a thousand words As far as I know, these are the correct "build areas" for each nation - though CSA, Chin China and Spain are not available to the AI as far as I know. The two grey ovals are where blockade indicators appear - the large one is for when your nation is blockaded, the smaller one shows just a "B" for when your enemy is blockaded. Attachments:
