I think I asked about this in here perhaps 8 years ago, but can't find the answer, and now come back to the game and can't recall what to do. I want my Grand Fleet, all the divisions, to form into Line Ahead from its starting line abreast (in the Jutland scenario), and I would like to that to happen before we start engaging the German fleet - how do I get that to happen, in Rear-Admiral mode? Many thanks, if anyone sees this and answers....

Oh. I found my original query now. Seems it can't be done that you get the AI to turn into Line Ahead before sighting the enemy.

I am new to the game. But if I understand correctly (if you are trying to form a long single line of your ships) isn't it possible to form a single line by making all the divisions roles as CORE and indicate the lead formation for every division the one you want it to follow? So that they all be CORE of each other and form one long line... Unless I misunderstood your goal Best regards, Dmitriy

Thanks Skryabin. Once the enemy is in sight, if you command your lead division to do a port turn all the divisions will naturally move from line abreast and fall in behind it in line ahead, it seems. It works nicely. However, so far my messing around has shown that trying this whilst a way off the enemy (out of LOS) just gets them to stay in line abreast. And yes, to do this you have to have your divisions set up as you suggest, which is the default in the Jutland scenario.

Oh, now I see what you mean. I am playing Campaign and there I can form my divisions the way I like any time (before I encounter the enemy), but in scenarios it is limited.

You can form them any way you like by manually moving them into place, one behind the other, you mean, and then retaining manual control of each division? Or how?

No, I mean that in the Campaign game you have to plan your operation, select the forces and then sail towards your objective far ahead before (if at all) you encounter the enemy. After you leave your port you can form your divisions any way you like at any time. While in a scenario you are limited to the formations you are given and it gets "unlock" for any changes only after you are sighing the first unknown ship. And this works everywhere from Admiral mode to Captain mode.
