I had a series of new Japanese CA's I was building. Some were still building and some were WU when I wondered why in 1944 I was still running around with Improved Director Fire Control. So I shopped other nation's yards and behold, the UK had Electro Optical Directors! So I selected all CA's that were still WU and Rebuilt them in the UK Yards to use the new Electro Optical Fire Control.
Here's the problem: some time later when another of the CA's began WU, I simply used the Ship in Service Tab to select the ship, Right click it and Rebuild it to the new spec. But it did NOT go to the UK's yards for Electro Optical Upgrade. It went to Local Yard. I do not have that tech. It should not have been built in my local yard. I thought ANY tech upgrade has your ship go to the respective yard where that tech is available.
Funny AAR, I know I probably shouldnt have upgraded my whole fleet at once, Hey, my tension with the UK was low, and I wanted this done fast, but while just about ALL my capital ships were being upgraded, France declares war on me, lol. Needless to say, not one of my BB's had any heavy shells left after a nice coastal cruise along the French shoreline on the way back from Britain... hehe
Which brings me to a suggestion... (Re)Building in a foreign yard should have the ship have to TRAVEL there to get upgraded and TRAVEL back. (This travel time should just be added to the time it takes for the ship to be completed. This should be easy enough, as selecting any other Nation Yard should show you the added trip time between home waters) In the above case, I was at war during rebuilding, and the trip time to return after rebuild is 4 months, but my rebuilding fleet 'magically' appeared back in home waters in NorthEast Asia from Northern Europe, as if teleported. I think addressing this to make trip times between home areas would really add a lot of realism to this sim. I was a little disappointed to know I could get my fleet back so fast. 4 months trip time there, 4 months rebuild, 4 months trip time back, all done in only 4 months. I think there's room for improvement here.
